4. Thank you so much!

We rarely have Democratic primaries around here, my friend. *sigh* When John Sweeney (R) was the rep, for years and years, it was lucky that any Dem ran against him. That is, until Kirsten Gillibrand ran in 2006, with the support of President Clinton who came to the district to campaign for her. That was exciting and I got to see him, great speaker and very charismatic, LOL. However, we are now redistricted, and this guy and the incumbent Democrat, Bill Owens, are from way up north, impressed he's coming here...

7. I'm the wrong one to ask, since I never dreamed Bush* would persevere in 2004

But I think this guy stands an excellent chance if Bill Owens supporters get behind him, at least I hope so. This is a little new to me since we were District 20, far to the south, until the last election. However, I've heard about the Republican who's running against him and she sounds almost as objectionable as Michele Bachmann, is basing her campaign on undoing everything that the president has accomplished...

For example:

http://eliseforcongress.com/

Real Health Care Solutions

Repeal Obamacare and replace it with common sense solutions to lower health care costs and improve quality and access

Families and small businesses in the North Country want health care that works for them and fits their specific needs. Instead, Obamacare has caused premiums to rise, coverage plans to be dropped, and small businesses to cut employees and reduce shifts and work hours. This is not the way to reform health care to improve quality and increase access. My family’s business lost our health care plan as a result of Obamacare, and we are now forced to pay more for less coverage.

To lower costs and improve care, Elise believes we need to repeal Obamacare and replace with common sense solutions; including to allow Upstate families and businesses to shop for insurance across state lines; pursue real tort reform; fight the waste, fraud and abuse that costs our health care system billions each year; protect those with pre-existing conditions by funding state-level high-risk pools; and allow individuals and families to purchase insurance on the same tax-advantaged basis as businesses.

Michael Grimm is also on Bill Maher's "Flip a District" brackets...

I've actually heard more about this Elise than I have about Aaron Woolf, so far, and none of it good. She sounds like she's channeling Mitch McConnell or Ted Cruz when it comes to the president.

5. I was wondering if you'd heard of him, he's a documentary filmmaker

Ran across that information when I was looking for the announcement of this event to post here:

http://www.woolfforcongress.com/about/

Career:

For more than 20 years, Aaron has produced and directed award-winning documentaries that have highlighted the human consequences of government policy.

Aaron is the director and producer of the critically acclaimed film, King Corn, for which he was awarded a 2008 George Foster Peabody Award. King Corn looks at the ways that agriculture policies affect farmers and consumers on the ground -- an inside view of how crop subsidies affect how and what we eat, as well as the people who grow our food. The film was released theatrically in 60 cities across the country as well as on PBS and Discovery.

In 2003, he directed Dying to Leave: The Global Face of Human Trafficking and Smuggling, which examined immigration systems across the world, and the flow of people, legal and illegal, across national borders. The film won an Australian Emmy Logie Award for best documentary series, aired as a two-hour special on the PBS series Wide Angle, and has been screened at the Secretary’s Open Forum at the US State Department.

In 2010 Aaron completed another PBS special, Beyond the Motor City, which focuses on Detroit, and the struggle to modernize transit in the nation's automotive heartland. The film was broadcast as part of the Blueprint America series on American infrastructure.

In 2010, Aaron toured the country supported by a grant from the Rockefeller Foundation, speaking about the future of America’s transportation infrastructure. Aaron’s work on this film profoundly shaped his belief that investment in infrastructure allows local businesses to compete in a global marketplace.

15. The Republicans are having a moment.

HE SAID, SHE SAID

MATTHEW TURNER

The war of words between Republican Elise Stefanik and Matt Doheny shows no signs of stopping as the June 24 primary nears in the New York 21st Congressional District.

Stefanik told the Enterprise in a phone interview Friday she wanted to clear up the differences between the two campaigns.

"I'm focused on raising the issues that face North Country residents, such as jobs," Stefanik said. "I've been out on the campaign trail focusing on economic opportunity, protecting Constitutional liberties. Our campaign hasn't engaged in the policies of personal destruction."

16. Matt Doheny ran against Bill Owens in the last election - and lost.

And she should talk, since what I've heard from her campaign, thus far, has been attacks on what the president has done rather than anything she hopes to accomplish, typical Republican.

20. Thanks! I'm certainly wishing him well!

We had a Republican in office in these parts for years and years, until Kirsten Gillibrand came along. She was my congresswoman and I worked for her Democratic successor who won the first time, lost badly to a teabagger the last time around. There's going to be a Republican primary here, hoping they cancel each other out, LOL.

BTW, Aaron Woolf is apparently a documentary filmmaker, has some good ideas. All the Republicans have to offer is criticism of the President.

27. Thanks so much, Justin, and I think it went very well!

He certainly spoke well, and to an enthusiastic crowd. I was impressed at how many showed up, had to look for a parking place, since this has always been a Republican area. I got a couple of signs and spoke to the guy who was asking everyone to sign in, asked him if there was a local office yet, but there's not, HQ is located (same as with incumbent Bill Owens - who was there) in Plattsburgh. This redistricting has been damn confusing. The sign in list asked if people were willing to do phone banking or canvassing and I said yes to both, told the campaign guy I'd worked on Scott Murphy's campaign and he gave me one of his cards. Just hope the enthusiasm carries on to November... *fingers crossed*

Sorry I missed you. I came home and fell asleep.

29. He sounds pretty progressive, to me

He talked about equal pay for equal work, has a young daughter, a lot about farming and this is a big agricultural area (Washington County) and fixing our crumbling infrastructure which is a huge problem here and everywhere. I can certainly get behind him, especially considering what the Republicans have to offer, repealing everything accomplished by the president.

31. I'd prefer if I'd even been to the northern town he's from, LOL

I hate redistricting. But he sounds like a good guy with sincere ambitions that I can support, so I'm grateful he's running. Until Kirsten Gillibrand won in 2006, we had Republican representation for as long as I can remember and the two who are vying for the nomination are even worse than before.

I checked out Skinner's new site, but didn't register. I already have my hands full here.

And in NY some of the districts were made to be more republican.

33. Oddly, redistricting gave us a Democrat, Bill Owens

I voted for him, better than the Republican, but wasn't particularly impressed. He voted with the Republicans to censure Eric Holder while most of the other Democrats walked out.

I guess I should be glad that Aaron Woolf showed up in these parts. Scott Murphy, who I worked for in 2009 and 2010, is actually local, pass his house almost everyday. And the Republican who ran against Bill Owens and lost is from Watertown, where I've never been, either.

I might sign up if I can think of a name...

Two of my dogs have lived past 18. But I got Jack back in 2006 because my other dog was the same breed, Brussels Griffon, so he was offered to me by a vet tech who rescued him because he was a "pet shop dog" that couldn't be sold, had a health problem, a hernia that was repaired when he was neutered. And it never slowed him down, LOL. I got my other Brussels Griffon when he was nine. I called about an eight-year-old cocker spaniel, but ended up with an 8-lb. Brussels Griffon whose owner had died. I took him everywhere with me because he was used to it.

My last cat I rescued from outdoors, eventually found out that she'd belonged to a neighbor who moved, poor thing. I'd adopt another cat now, but I'm living with Tommy and Huck who are now seven and get along fairly well because they're brothers. My housemate's sister rescued their mother and placed her five kittens.

The first on-line pic I ever saved. Tommy and Huck are pretty recognizable.

64. Owens supports Woolf for Congress

JOE LoTEMPLIO

PLATTSBURGH — Aaron Woolf, Democratic candidate for the 21st Congressional District seat, is getting support from the outgoing incumbent, but potential opponents are not impressed.

"I am surprised (Congressman) Bill Owens even knows who Aaron Woolf is," said Dave Catalfamo, spokesman for Republican candidate Matt Doheny.

Woolf's campaign team has been touting his association with the incumbent congressman from Plattsburgh for the past few weeks, issuing news releases highlighting their visits to businesses in the 12-county district.

65. Good stuff!

And incumbent Bill Owens was with Aaron Woolf at the meet and greet I went to last Monday. I voted for Owens because he was certainly better than the Republican (Matt Doheny, who lost), but I'd never even seen him before. Until the last election, I was in District 20, had Kirsten Gillibrand (Hudson) for Congress, followed by Scott Murphy (Glens Falls - and whose house I pass almost every day) and then teabagger Chris Gibson (Kinderhook). We were redistricted, joined with District 21, way up north, while District 20 extended to the south. When I worked for Scott Murphy's campaign, I called people in Greene and Dutchess Counties.

67. Maybe I talked to them, LOL.

We had a map on the wall of District 20 so we'd know where places were. It was shaped pretty strangely and encompassed 10 counties, I think. But I know a lot more about what's south of here, was born in Albany and grew up in Saratoga, than I do what's up north. Got an e-mail from the Aaron Woolf campaign inviting me to his 50th birthday party last Tuesday, but it took place in Plattsburgh.

As far as the competition is concerned, I think Aaron Woolf makes a much better impression, outgoing and friendly, speaks well and has good ideas. Of the two Republicans, Matt Doheny lost last time to Bill Owens and Elise what's-her-name has Paul Ryan's endorsement, has mainly just complained about the Democrats and the president, so far. But you never know around here since Republicans do have an advantage and, as you know, most people don't pay attention.

It's largely rural, lots of farms in these parts, especially Washington County. We have concerns that don't relate to large cities. 84. NY21: Is Elise Stefanik a fresh new voice or a carpetbagger?

Brian Mann

We're just a month away from the Republican primary in the North Country's fiercely-contested House race.

The Democratic and Green Party candidates are running unopposed in their primaries June 24. But Republicans Matt Doheny and Elise Stefanik have been locked in an expensive and sometimes bitter matchup that's involved accusations of carpetbagging and dishonesty.

The first debate between Doheny and Stefanik takes place May 27. This week, we begin profiling the two GOP candidates. Here's Brian Mann and Martha Foley's conversation about Elise Stefanik's life story, her background, and her political ideas.

I have no idea why. And she voted for Junior because she always voted Republican. When I canvassed for Scott Murphy, I parked in her driveway since my "turf" was nearby. She told me she voted for him, but I'll never know for sure...

When my grandmother voted for Bill Clinton, switched parties for the first time ever, she called me to let me know. I told her that I did, too, but there was no need to tell the others...

I don't know who I'm hoping will win the Republican primary, whoever is less electable, I guess. I stopped to see my brother tonight. He pulled his shoulder, so I brought him dinner as an excuse to check up on him. But we never will agree on politics. I was trying to sell him on Aaron Woolf when he told me that he's becoming increasingly libertarian.

95. Primary Day Looms for NY 21st District Candidates

SARANAC LAKE, NY -

We're just over a month away from New York's 21st Congressional District primary.

The Republicans are the only ones needing a primary. They have 2 candidates. There's a first-timer and a repeat candidate hoping to make the ballot.

With just weeks until the primary in the largest district this side of the Mississippi River, people want their voices heard.

“I think government has gotten too big,” said Sally Spadaro, a Saranac Lake voter. “I'm very concerned about the changes with health care."

District 21 is home to a Republican battle between Matt Doheny and Elise Stefanik.

The more rural areas, like my neck-of-the-woods, are traditionally Republican. Until Kirsten Gillibrand won in 2006, we always had Republican representation - Jerry Solomon followed by John Sweeney - and they usually ran unopposed.

Think I told you about the bus load of red shirted senior citizens Chris Gibson brought to his debate with Scott Murphy. They were very disruptive - and confused. I called them "senior citizens against health care." Incumbent Scott Murphy voted in favor of ACA. And also John Boehner came to the district to support Gibson, but there was very little news on it because it was behind closed doors. Remind you of anyone?
