And it does sound like something that other states should adopt - especially since voting in this election is awfully confusing. I voted absentee in the primary for the first time since college - since I'm in New York and the governor sent an application to every voter. For the GE, I have the option of voting early for the first time and I was sent a very helpful notice with all the dates and times as well as information on all the other options. But I'm still second guessing myself, New Mexico sounds much easier. Plus, you have much better winters than we have in the Northeast! 
When I first moved here, if you voted on Election Day itself, whether the primary or the regular election you needed to show up at the right precinct. That has changed. Now, and I'm pretty sure this is true for the entire state, you go to a polling place in your county, tell them who you are, and your ballot is printed up on the spot.
Once you've filled in all the circles, you give it to a poll worker, who runs it through a machine and let you know if you've done a serious screw up such as voting twice in the same candidacy. How nice is that?
One of my polling places is a local school, where kids help out during the day. The adults on site make sure the kids get to do as much as possible. I really, really hope those kids take home the lesson that voting isn't scary and they will do it as soon as they are able. They do seem quite thrilled to be participating.
Ohh, and the winters here are wonderful. The locals always act as if until perhaps three years ago the climate was exactly like San Diego, which makes me crazy. No offense to San Diego, but winters here are not that hard. Trust me. I was born in northern NY State. I've lived in Minneapolis and Colorado. And even Overland Park, KS, which has a decidedly harder winter than here. Yeah, we get snow. But almost always it melts off by noontime. I understand the first snowplows for this city weren't purchased until about 20 years ago. Which tells you a lot.
