Photo shows baby crawling across New Jersey street

Cory M. Cannon, 41, of Eatontown, New Jersey, said he was driving to work after 5 p.m. ET Saturday when he spotted something on Joe Parker Road in Lakewood. "I thought it was a toy or something until she moved,"

I used my work vehicle to slow down traffic behind me and took the pic as I was exiting the vehicle and halting oncoming cars." He said he called Lakewood police after finding the baby and gave them the address.

Cannon said a neighbor came out to the street at the same time he did to retrieve the baby, before police arrived. He followed the neighbor back to the baby's house. A young child answered the door, which was ajar, he said.

Police confirmed the incident, and as of Monday morning, said no arrests have been made. Lakewood Police Capt. Gregory Staffordsmith said the investigation revealed the baby may have left through a door that was left open by an older sibling, and that the family was unaware the child was gone until a neighbor returned the child, who wasn't harmed.

You actually have to put in effort to raise a kid, and not let them get run over by a car due to your carelessness.

I'm sure they'll get their kid back, and can try again.

This scenario is most anyone's nightmare but does not n necessarily indicate negligence. All it takes is a 3-4 yo sibling who unlocks all the childproof locks and a toddler that makes a run for it. Even with a keyed deadbolt with the key put up somewhere. I have seen this happen but with the dogs in the street, not the toddler. All that in well under a minute.

We had an incident here when my daughter was about two years old. I was at work. My husband was taking care of the kids.

My daughter, now 34, toddled down to the road, a semi-busy highway. Her brother, who was four, ran after her. Her sister, six, went inside to get Dad. Fortunately, traffic in both directions stopped. A nice, grandmotherly lady brought my daughter up to the house.

Where was my husband? Sitting on the toilet, reading the newspaper. I was ready to kill him when I found out. But did happen really fast.

He was 2, and managed to unlock the front door, I found him standing on a traffic meridian. It was dusk, he was looking at "the pretty lights" of the cars.
our house was just feet from the street.
His daddy put deadbolts on the all outside doors the very next day. I still shudder over that, it's been over 50 years now.

Lil genius also managed to get down the basement stairs, grab a Phillips screw driver and take the rims off the Jeep headlights.

I found out about it when I heard his daddy saying.." where did you put all the screws?? Did you EAT any??!!"
another dead bolt required.

Any halfway decent mommie would be shuddering for years over that poor baby in the street.
