Truck crash spills 8 million dimes next to interstate

May 10 (UPI) -- Police in Nevada said a truck hit a guard rail on a stretch of highway and overturned, spilling its load of 8 million dimes next to the road.

The Nevada Highway Patrol said the tractor-trailer struck a guardrail in the southbound lanes of Interstate 15, near Glendale, about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The truck rolled onto its side next to the roadway and spilled its load of $800,000 worth of dimes.

Troopers created a secure crime scene so a recovery team could retrieve the dimes for the U.S. Treasury Department, which had contracted the truck to transport the money.

An armored car overturned on an overpass and spilled money all over the streets below. Of course, law enforcement was on the scene ASAP to collect all of the cash. One very old man, who was walking under the overpass, grabbed a handful of bills out of the air. He tucked the money into his well-worn Bible. He never saw the overturned truck. When he was told to return the money, he refused. His case went to court. His defense ? He actually believed it was "manna from Heaven." He got to keep what little he had collected. True story.
