6/26 from 9am-3pm International Day in Support of Victims of Torture @ Minneapolis Fed. Courthouse

Greetings! At today's meeting Amnesty International, Group 37 decided to hold a next big event and it's coming up soon - as in this Friday!

To mark International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, June 26th, we will hold a rally outside of the Minneapolis office of the US Attorney General to demand that the US Department of Justice read the Senate Torture Report. It's absurd that the DOJ is trying to ignore the report given the kinds of federal crimes it describes!!!!

We will gather outside the Minneapolis Federal Building and read the effin' report to Minnesota's USAG through a megaphone (assuming we get the city noise permit). People who don't want to do the megaphone bit can hold signs or just be there in support of torture victims worldwide. Orange Jump suits more than welcome!

Here's a sample of the kind of excerpt we will read aloud:

“I was in a standing position, feet flat on the floor, but with my arms above my head and fixed with handcuffs and a chain to a metal bar running across the width of the cell… After some time being held in this position my stump began to hurt so I removed my artificial leg to relieve the pain. Of course my one good leg then began to ache and soon started to give way so that I was left hanging with all my weight on my wrists. I shouted for help but at first nobody came. Finally, after about one hour a guard came and my artificial leg was given back to me and I was again placed in the standing position with my hands above my head. After that the interrogators sometimes deliberately removed my artificial leg in order to add extra stress to the position. For the first two weeks I was held in this position apart from two or three occasions when I was allowed to lie down, but I cannot remember for how long.”
