the temperature was down to 5 degrees, with a windchill of 15 below, and 25-mph wind

Imagine what Feb football will be like.

Just think of all the slipping and sliding if it's snowing in the stadium! Comedy gold! Not to mention the hordes of shivering, frozen fans who shelled out insane money to be miserable all night.

a very expensive one that will be see through and have panels that can be opened during nicer weather.

It's only during the 2 years they're playing at the Gophers' stadium that the games will be outside.

I imagine there will be sky way connections so the tourist will never have be outside. I miss working downtown but I won't when this is going on.

The Vikings' new stadium will have a fixed roof made of ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE), a clear plastic material designed to make fans feel as though they're sitting outside without actually exposing them to Minnesota weather. Bryan Trubey, a principal at HKS Sports architectural firm, said the roof will be the first of its kind on a stadium, and the new facility will have the largest glass pivoting doors in the world.

Trubey would not discuss whether HKS and Mortensen Construction, the contractor on the stadium, could have added a retractable roof and stayed under the $975 million budget, but he said in Minnesota's climate, the perception of being outdoors made more sense than the reality of it, anyway.

I lived in Minneapolis the last time the Super Bowl was held there. Friends and I went dancing that night, and it was bitter cold and icy. The people watching was priceless, as southern trophy wives teetered in miniskirts on 4 inch spike heels on Minnesota ice muck. Afterward, we enjoyed being the only customers at Annie's Parlor at the U of M, watching the fireworks through the back windows. Great night.

Let the sport-obsessed tourists lose their cash. Just make sure you have some fun while they're doing it.

when the super bowl took place.

And this year there were 50" of snow on the ground, while in 1992 there were 10". Temp in 1992 was in the 20s, I think, this year - 14.

And, of course, in 1992 it was inside.
