Where's that doobie? Recreational marijuana officially legal in Michigan today

At 12:01 a.m. Thursday, Michigan turned green and became the 10th state in the nation to legalize marijuana for adult recreational use.

But the old saying, "Smoke 'em if you got 'em," carries many, many caveats.

Matt Abel, who has been a marijuana advocate for years and is the executive director of the Michigan chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, said he planned to "roll a big fattie and smoke it at midnight," when Michigan's voter-approved ballot initiative on recreational marijuana officially went into effect.

"This is the last day of prohibition," he said on Wednesday. "It's significant and a milestone for marijuana laws in Michigan. But we still have a ways to go."

1. Question.....loop hole?

So, can someone come up to me and sell me a coffee cup for $50 and give me the contents for free? It is now legal to give cannabis away, but not sell it.

asking for a friend

7. Thats how grey they wan't the law

so ppl will be confused and scared to go get it. I watched dumb local news coverage and all they did was explain how dangerous it is, and they never once mentioned that alcohol abuse is the leading cause of death. If the stupid lame-duck red gubmint here won't pass the laws to actually market it here and collect tax revenues for a year, how is someone SUPPOSED to get the legal stuff until then? I have been growing indoors for years myself with a medical card, and I have no problem giving it away to someone in need, but yeh the price of a zip-loc baggie just went thru the roof! Or maybe some creative ppl will come up with some better loopholes for us to jump thru, so we can at least contribute some of our "black market" sales coin back into decent society. January 3 can't get here fast enough for me, then we'll see if we have to hold any other feet to the flames. Jus sayin'...

2. Advantage to having a medical card.

Asked that question at the dispensary. Was told by the nice man behind the counter that, 10% less tax on medical cannabis and recreational will be limited to 13% THC, while most medical is 16% and higher. In other words, recreational will be more expensive and of lower quality.

4. Yes, it's possible that decriminalization

will help the tourism industry in Michigan. It will be interesting to observe what happens over the next few years.
