Baker drops Deloitte after RMV software snafus
Saturday, July 11, 2015

The Baker administration has dumped embattled state contractor Deloitte Consulting, two years after the firm began work on a still-uncompleted project to modernize software at the Registry of Motor Vehicles.

“After careful consideration, we have made the decision to terminate this contract because the project, which began 10 years ago, is not in alignment with the goals of the Baker administration,” said Registrar of Motor Vehicles Erin Deveney in a message to staff yesterday. “No new work will be taking place on this program effective immediately and we will begin to work on an orderly transition plan.”

The state has paid Deloitte $60 million for its work since it was awarded the contract in 2013, a figure that could rise to $75 million as the project transitions.

The governor’s office said it remains committed to upgrading the RMV’s automated license and registration system.
