Florida

As soon as we weather the hurricane season, we get to enjoy four months of mild weather before the cold snaps start. I can sense it starting now, the nights cool down considerably once the sun goes down, the gentle wind current across the peninsula. The time of year that makes living in Florida worthwhile.

I miss real winter weather. (I am in Kansas.)

(31,261 posts)Nights can require a thinish blanket, but nothing more substantial.
Isn't Kansas known for having cold winters that freeze the ground?

(66,184 posts)temperature will jump back up into the 50s, 60s, or even to 70 or so--right after the brief cold snap.
When we get snow, it usually melts the next day, so we don't always even bother to shovel it.
And this is eastern Kansas.

The peak of tourista season.
Did you ever notice when the temp drops below 80º Floridians start to drape sweaters around their shoulders? We complain about the heat but are the first ones to put on a long sleeve shirt, jacket, or hoodie?...... Makes me laugh...

(31,261 posts)I have visited South Florida in December and found it to still be warm.
Yeah, when the temperature drops into the seventies here people start wearing sweaters and sleeves, but they typically seem to be people that don't travel or spend time in colder climates, or they are people that are sensitive to cold, like some older people (we have a lot of those even in my part of the state).
When I was a boy through high school, I wore thick jackets during the winter. But after I had spent weeks on end in colder regions during their winters, things changed for me. I have a jacket but use that only when traveling north, I don't own a sweater and simply wear a long sleeve shirt when day temperatures drop to their coldest in my part of Florida.

(14,930 posts)I was in Clearwater a few years back and it was about 35º... I like to froze my ass off..
Not use to the cold weather. I remember my father came up to visit me in Up State NY when I was a kid..It was about 40º and he was dressed like Nanook of the north.. He froze. He told me that when you live in So Fla for a while your "blood gets thin and cant tolerate the cold".. I thought he was nuts but I'm now in the same boat. Goes below 70 and Im cold!!!
