Florida Republican who tried to abolish EPA says toxic algae crisis is 'horrifying'

Matt Gaetz, a Republican congressman from Florida who once filed a bill to eliminate the Environmental Protection Agency, has realized that our state's current incredibly disgusting algae crisis is indeed "horrifying."

The congressman tweeted out his environmental epiphany Monday evening, saying, "This is horrifying," while retweeting a post showing photos of toxic sludge, scores of bloated fish, a dead dolphin and a whale shark.

Naturally, any person would be disturbed by photos showing dead animals washed ashore on Florida's beaches, but Gaetz reaction is especially rich considering his well-documented terrible opinions regarding the environment.

In February of 2017, Gaetz filed a one-sentence bill to abolish the EPA, stating that "this legislation is necessary because it is the states and local communities that are best positioned to responsibly regulate the environmental assets within their jurisdictions."

What does he or someone in his family own beach front property and they can't stand the stench of rotten and decaying dead and bloated animal carcasses stinking up the beach in front of their multi-million dollar home ?

Ashamed he is my rep - only got into office because the field was so crowded with Tea Party idiots that the conservative dum-dums in this area gave him the majority vote in the primaries a few years back. The guy's hope this time around was having Trump come down to the Florida Panhandle and campaign for him.

and it's the Rethugs and their cool aid swigging followers who are to blame. We could have fixed this long ago....climate change, fertilizer runoff, toxic waste emissions and on and on. In 100 years, if our species is still around, they will look back at this group of fascist scumbags as the worst of American politics. As evil in all respects as Calhoun, Davis, Stephens and the rest of that merry band of slave loving sessesh trash.

Drink deep the consequences that your party has wrought on our environment.

Talk is cheap.
When he proposes, endorses, and actually votes in favor of reversing the impact of Big Sugar and other GOP lobbyist favors, then I'll pay attention.
In the meantime, suck it up, buttercup.
