OPD officer arrested on DUI charges

An Orlando Police Department officer has been arrested on charges of driving under the influence in connection with a Saturday morning crash in Manatee County while he was off duty, the department announced on Monday.

Michael Lemmerman, who has been on the force since 2012 and most recently assigned to midnight patrol, is relieved of duty pending an internal investigation, a spokeswoman said.

Lemmerman, 33, allegedly hit two parked cars at a Bradenton apartment complex before fleeing in a Nissan pick-up truck, reports show. A sheriff's deputy stopped him near the scene for swerving on the roadway, and Lemmerman said he had "no idea" when asked what happened.

He told a Florida Highway Patrol Trooper he had drank about five beers while bar hopping with his brother but wouldn't agree to participate in field sobriety or breath tests, according to his arrest report.
