DC Bar Fined $90K for Serving Cleaning Fluid, Security Issues

Trouble is brewing for an Adams Morgan bar.

D.C.'s Alcoholic Beverage Control Board ordered Heaven & Hell on 18th Street NW to pay a $90,000 fine and suspended its liquor license for 90 days.

Court documents say the owner of the club, Mehari Weldemariam, served a customer a Long Island iced tea with "chemical cleaning fluid" last November.

Weldemariam said it was an accident and he confused the cleaner for sour mix, according to documents. He said he called 911 and offered to call an ambulance for the patron.

Some store brands of vinegar also look exactly like their seltzer water. It can be risky.

Dishwasher soap. It was right next to the powdered sugar and she did it while working a 10 pm to 6 am shift. Donuts were cooked at 3 am.

The owner went out of business because of it. But he had violated all sorts of child labor laws by letting her work in the cooking area and working her by herself on the night shift during school.

But she was so upset by it, she never got another after school job again.

There are reasons for all those restaurant and bar regulations.
