Obituary sums up frustration of Washington Nationals fans

Obituary sums up frustration of Washington Nationals fans

Patrick D. Killebrew’s obituary in Sunday’s Richmond Times-Dispatch is hitting home with Washington Nationals fans.

Here’s the obituary:

KILLEBREW, Patrick, “Pat,” age 68, passed away peacefully at home, June 20, 2017, after watching the Washington Nationals relief pitchers blow yet another lead. Beloved father and husband, longtime attorney, former U.S. Navy Navigator and avid baseball fan and player. Join in a celebration of his life July 2, 6 to 8 p.m., at the SCA Clubhouse, 9601 Redbridge Rd., 23236. In lieu of flowers, send “donations” to the “Nationals Bullpen Fund.”

The failure of Washington’s relief pitchers to hold leads this season has been a source of frustration for Nats fans. ... After blowing an early 6-0 lead against Miami on June 19, the Nats still led 7-6 in the seventh. The Marlins tied the game, then won 8-7 with a run in the ninth. ... Washington won 12-3 on June 20.

Despite the bullpen issues, the Nats are 45-30 and lead the National League East by 9 games over Atlanta.
