CALIFORNIA: Let's help overturn Citizens United!
Got this today from Derek Cressman, recent candidate for SOS:
I have some very good news. Last week, the Assembly Elections Committee approved the Overturn Citizens Untied Act by a vote of 5-0.
Next week, it will either languish in the Appropriations Committee or move to a final vote in the entire Assembly.
Please send a fax today to Appropriations Chair Mike Gatto and urge him to speed the bill on its way. The Money Out Voters In coalition has set up a free tool for you to do that here http://www.peaceteam.net/pass_sb1272.php
SB 1272, authored by Senator Ted Lieu, will give Californians the chance to instruct their member of Congress to support a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United by placing a "voter instruction" question on this November's ballot. I first suggested this idea in a column in the Washington Monthly in 2011 and the idea has taken off. Montana and Colorado have both had statewide votes, as have cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco.
We need to act soon in order to have this question on the November 2014 ballot in California. Please take a moment to send a fax today.
Thanks,
Derek Cressman
