while it was informative one glaring omission was just WHO will I be purchasing insurance coverage from? Is it going to be more of the same...blue cross, anthem, etc, or will there be any new agencies in the mix? I'm hoping to find a nonprofit insurance. Will that even be in the mix? Or is this just to funnel more customers to the big agencies? If it offers both, then I'd be ok with it.

and was shocked to read this:

Their costs are fixed. While there have been many scary stories lately about rate shock, 2014 rates in California are estimated (Milliman) to increase 30% over 2013 on average.

Blue increased my son's family $1900 to $2300 for this year and for next another 30%! This is Affordable? I thought there was supposed to be premium control included.

Personally, I am still hoping for coverage when the 2014 rules kick in, but that won't help my grandkids.

They do fine but *I* think the premium is beyond ridiculous.
I was in a mood 'cause I'm achy. A lot of people will be helped because of the Act.

From your first link it appears all of the subsidy consists of tax breaks.
This does not help those on SS too young for Medicare, and we are very low fixed income people.

"Pretty much the same California health insurance carriers will sell their products through the Exchange, including Blue Shield which is a non-profit company. There may be some new companies too. We won'r knor exactly for a couple more months."

So far that's disappointing - I'm hoping for some new players that will be set up as true non-profits. Not the blue shield "non-profit" model. When I got insurance quotes from an agent last year, BS was twice as high as anthem for my quote.

I pay on my own. It went up quite a bit this yr. I wonder if ACA will lower my premiums? Keep them from rising?
