Attorney: Death threat sent to Ghost Ship landlord
OAKLAND The landlord of the Ghost Ship warehouse where 36 people died in a December inferno has received a death threat in the mail, according to court documents.
Chor Ng, who owns the Fruitvale district building, received the threat on the weekend of Oct. 7, her attorney, Stephen Dreher, wrote in an Oct. 27 civil court filing in Alameda County Superior Court. Dreher wrote that he contacted the Alameda District Attorneys Office and the FBI and sent the letter to the FBIs crime lab for fingerprint and DNA analysis.
Both the FBI and the DA are actively investigating, according to an email he wrote to other lawyers, which was included in the court file. We take these matters very seriously.
The attorney said the threat came in the weeks after this news agency and KTVU reported about a $3 million insurance claim related to the Ghost Ship property and adjacent buildings Ng owns on 31st Avenue and International Boulevard. Dreher said the news reports contained inaccuracies as to how much money has or would be paid to Ng under the $3 million property and liability policy. The law firm earlier declined to comment on the insurance policy and did not immediately respond to a request for further comment sent on Tuesday to their spokesman, Sam Singer.
