The series follows Carrie Mathison, a CIA operations officer who, after conducting an unauthorized operation in Iraq, is put on probation and reassigned to the CIA's counterterrorism center in Langley, Virginia. While she was conducting the operation in Iraq, Carrie was warned by an asset that an American prisoner of war had been turned by Al-Qaeda. Carrie's job is complicated when her boss, Director of the Counterterrorism Center David Estes, calls Carrie and her colleagues in for an emergency briefing. It is then that Carrie learns that Nicholas Brody, a U.S. Marine Sergeant who had been reported as missing in action since 2003, has been rescued during a Delta Force raid on a compound belonging to terrorist Abu Nazir. Carrie comes to believe that Brody is the American prisoner of war that her asset in Iraq was talking about. However, the federal government and her superiors at the CIA consider Nicholas Brody a war hero. Realizing it would be next to impossible to convince her boss, David Estes, to place Brody under surveillance, Carrie approaches the only other person she can trust, Saul Berenson. The two must now work together to investigate Brody and prevent another terrorist attack on American soil.

I found it so very plausible....many twists and turns, surely keeps one struggling to figure thing out, not predictable. The sesaon finale was Sunday night...can be seen on demand.

(12,316 posts)When you finish watching ...let's analysis the characters. Brody and Carrie are layered! This show is made for DU discussion in my opinion. Ok, back to work for me.

(20,043 posts)definitely like it...damn another show..:sigh:
It kinda reminds me of another Showtime series--'Sleeper Cell'--don't know if you ever watched it, but it was very good. Sucked when they cancelled it.

Of course Michael Ealy is a hottie and makes any show worth watching.

(1,945 posts)Originally I thought it would be a 'typical' rah rah USA against the terrorist type thing, but gave it a try and am really glad I did. The acting is superb and the story definitely not superficial. I don't watch too much tv, but this has become a don't miss for me.

(12,536 posts)in between. I don't think they have much to add. Loved the series, but I hated the ending.
Little Star
(17,055 posts)But after reading the link posted in another comment, the character will still be here in season 2.

(102,200 posts)The character he plays, though, is so detached (for obvious reasons), it is hard to feel much of anything towards him.
I love Mandy Patinkin... Such a talented actor/singer/dancer in so many tv and Broadway roles... He is very good in this, IMO
Little Star
(17,055 posts)Lets face it he's just very talented.

(17,742 posts)and find him incredibly irritating to watch in this series. It is as though he's struggling with the language or accent or something, is he British or otherwise have an accent he is trying to suppress?
His role in this series has totally destroyed how I felt about him in Band of Brothers, a huge shame imho.

(17,742 posts)Wonder why I didn't notice this problem in Band of Bros? Really odd.
I'm going to have to go rewatch that now, in fact the whole series is playing on Spike right now. BRB.

(21,748 posts)I thought the general idea of the story was very cool but I thought they played far to many "here is a twist just for the sake of a twist" and that many of them were just to prolong the story. By the 2nd or 3rd episode, I had a good idea of what twist was coming based on if Brody was being presented as a good guy or a bad guy through the episode. The second half of the season was much better in this regard and did a much better job of telling the story. I also though pretty much every one of the actors was superb, even when the writing was crap I did not care for the ending at all... What a huge let down... I'm not really sure I can watch another season of everyone trying to figure out the same thing all over again. I think a much better ending would have been for Brody to succeed in his bombing... Justifying Carrie and giving them (the writers) a plausable way to get her back in. Abu Nazir could then come up with a bigger badder plot for them to foil next season.
Over all, it was pretty good but I thought they could have done a lot better with it.

(17,742 posts)Did Tom have it and did Brody get it back from him?

(17,742 posts)So why didn't Brody flip the switch the second time? Would he have done so if Dana hadn't called?
Would the bomb have detonated?
How many were hoping it would?
