His wife??? Alice?? Is the “head” of the family, oh, Ralph thinks he’s big man, but Alice IS THE HEAD of the family. Oh yah, we need a woman in the people’s house.

2. Was there anything ever better than Gleason ?

The Honeymooners is STILL one of my all time faves.

And remember that was before the "seven second delay" that we now have even on live telly. I still remember one time when he cracked up and could barely keep it together. He and "Alice" were standing underneath a cinema marquee, and he had a line where he was asking her if she wanted to see her teeth in lights and for some reason, it just struck him as too funny. It was one of the very few times Gleason, ever the pro, had to pause to keep from busting out loud.

In another vein, as we just saw the passing of Tim Conway - one of the funniest guys to ever live - I was watching an old clip of him on Carol Burnett, doing the "Elephant Story." If you've forgotten this, google it now. You won't regret it.

3. Alice was also the only one whose contract included residuals pay for reruns

Though it was Audrey Meadows' brother the lawyer who negotiated that.
