1. A funny story

I was at a client's house doing some technical work. They have this huge, very friendly Saint Bernard.

While I was working, everyone else left together in their car to do something, leaving their dog behind and telling me they'd be back in about an hour. They told me to lock the door behind me if I left.

I continued my work and, while I was finishing up, I glanced into the living room and saw the dog sprawled out on the living room floor. After a while, I looked out there again and he hadn't moved at all since I last looked at him. I went out to pet him and was taken aback when he wasn't responding to me at all. No response to my "who's a happy doggy" or even my petting him. OMG! Is he breathing? He seems to be, but it's pretty shallow.

I went back to packing up, thinking I'd wait a little to see if the rest of the family returned before I called a vet.

Then, out of nowhere, the dog just sprang to life! He was whining and pacing around the front door. Why was he doing that? It wasn't until a couple of minutes later that I heard their car pull up outside. He must have heard it well before I did. They were slobberingly greeted by a very happy dog when they opened the door.

I laughed to myself. Dogs can be so attached to their pack (family) that, if they leave without them, it's as if they've suddenly lost the will to live! LOL.

Anyway, this picture reminded me of that experience. AT least this guy is keeping alert and not in some kind of suspended animation!

3. When I saw a large dog lying in the corner of a bar looking like he was on death row

I figured he was too old and feeble to be running around. But when one of the bartenders took a jacket off a coat hook which revealed a leash, that's exactly what he did!

4. Wow, incredible!

Sophie here isn’t quite that intense, although if “Dad” is gone for a long time, such as gone fishing for the day, she will begin to mope around a bit towards late afternoon and keep a watch on the door. I swear she hears his truck half a mile down the road. Well, granted, it IS kind of loud...

12. Thank you George!

Dad is the one who gets her dinner (usually) ... maybe she was getting hungry!
