1. And I'm in, with an old photo.

I hadn't even realized that the bee was there till I uploaded the photo. I was very happy to see that.

We have good entries! Looking forward to seeing what else arrives.

2. I'm in with a shot I took Thursday.

Came home from a trip to Raleigh--right before the sky opened up and we got 3 1/2 inches of rain through the afternoon--to see a Zebra swallowtail flitting about in the Lantana! Grabbed the camera and eventually got a decent shot. This guy was missing one of his long "tails". I guess a bird must have gotten a bite of him already.

6. I'm in!

The California Poppies are always worth a quick drive to the desert

We have some great entries so far. I have one or two more in reserve if needed. I have to admit, however, that AndyS's birds nest is killer. I predict it's going to be a front-runner. (Is it OK to say that)?

7. It is definitely OK to say that! I happen to agree, BTW.

And I adore your poppies, my dear Grumpy Old Guy! Stunning shot, with the photo angled up to the sky.

8. I like your bee and poppy shot too.

I have a fly and poppy shot in reserve which may get submitted if we get a second entry. The hardest part is choosing which pic to enter.

20. Hey, Grumpy

It's fine to comment on entries, that's what the comment thread is for. Although I appreciate your compliment I usually refrain from "picking winners" as it might discourage other entries. Besides, the finals have a way of humbling us all

16. We all know it's not about 'winning' it's about the chance to share a thing

we saw, an experience we had or something that moves us.

A contest is just a framework to organize it around a theme and title to post it under.

Besides, you do so good stuff!

14. Mnhtnbb, Firefox is not showing your image on i.postimg.cc

They've had a bad SSL certificate for over a week now -- wrong domain name.

15. I can see my shot now--using Firefox--on both my laptop

and on my android phone (not Firefox). It is about 4 hours after you posted the message.

Thanks for telling me. If it happens again before we get to Prelims, I may post it with a different hosting service.

18. OOPS - I messed up

A kind DU photographer pointed out to me that the hostess had requested no photos of pets, which had escaped my notice. So I took my photo out, and will see what else I can come up with.
Apologies!!!

23. In with #2, my Star fruit tree

must have produced 100+ this year. They get $2.50 each in the supermarket, alas, I can eat none of them, and maybe you should not either. Star fruit carambola juice can contain as much as 800 mg of oxalate in 4 ounces. I am considering removing the tree.

Two studies show that the high oxalic acid content present in carambola may, eventually, produce acute renal failure, kidney stones and neurotoxicity in sensitive individuals. Therefore, the fruit should be avoided.

24. Perhaps donate the fruit to a food bank or pantry.

If they're $2.50 in the market somebody must be enjoying them, yes? Healthline website has risks and benefits info as well as how to chose and prepare star fruit.

Your photo of the star fruit is very beautiful.

25. Not sure I would feel right donating

something so toxic to those least able to afford a hospital. I was apprised of this when caring for my older brother who, over his life, had accumulated 250 kidney stones in a small vial that he was proud to display. I had given him a couple and he seemed to like them, they are quite good. By sheer chance his urologist mentioned to us one day he had just read an article about Starfruit being one of the worst things anyone could eat that is prone to stones, I almost had a heart attack, and of course never gave him another!
