We took a drive over to the coast yesterday

It hovered around and above 100į here the last several days, so my wife and I drove over to the coast at Point Reyes. It was afternoon, and the fog and clouds were coming back in:

First stop was Tomales Bay State Park:

Johnstones Trailhead. I'm nursing a foot injury, so we didn't walk it this time. It's nice along there:

Drove out through the Tule Elk Reserve. Saw three gorgeous elk right by the side of the road, and of course the camera was in the bag on the back seat. I think my wife might have snapped them with her cellphone before they loped off. Those elk looked enormous.

Point Reyes has a cool light house at the opposite end of the park from the elk reserve, but that area was closed off, so we ended the day at Point Reyes Beach North.

So, instead of cool lighthouse and enormous elk photos, you get boring seascapes. The beaches in Northern California often look like this during summer.

My attempt at some kind of mood photo. The sun is actually out there on the horizon but I didn't capture it well, so I probably should have just cropped it out:

These two were sitting out drinking wine and enjoying the view. Temps were in the 60's, so it wasn't cold.

I'll see if I can find my wife's elk photo to make up for this. Just really wanted to post something.

1. My dear Adsos Letter!

I think your photos are just lovely! It's always fun to see the spectacular shots so we can oooh and aaaah over them.

But these quiet contemplative photos are lovely too, in their own way. The beach looks lovely to walk along and I hope you'll soon be able to do that again. The steps in the fourth photo look very inviting!

And I love the moody water/sun photos! The last one before the couple drinking and enjoying the view, where the sun is a yellow smear across the horizon is fantastic.

I really enjoyed these. You don't need to make up for anything--but I'd love to see the elk photo your wife got.

2. My wife always takes better shots than I do.

Cellphone and an old Canon PowerShot. She has a good eye, and her photos are usually interesting.

Glad you enjoyed these CaliforniaPeggy. Love the coast on these kind of days in summer.

Ya know, we're moving down to SoCal sometime in the next year (as soon as I can get this place ready for sale) and I'm really of two minds about it. Here the coast is an hour away, and The City is only about 40 minutes. The Sierra are two hours off, and Napa Valley and its wineries are only 20 minutes away.

We've lived here almost 29 years, and I've fixed it up just the way we like it.

Trading this for a house in Redlands.

Redlands.

The pull of the grandchildren is strong on the Nana (my wife).

3. I understand about the pull of the grandchildren!

I just did a quick Google on Redlands since I really had no idea where it is. San Bernardino is near, I see.

It looks like a nice community, with the University there. I'm sure you will find lovely things to photograph!

We live out on the coast, just south of LAX. It's lovely here, but oh god pricey. We bought back in the 70's when it wasn't as bad.

Best of luck to you and your wife!

4. Nothing boring about seascapes

because I enjoy all the different moods of the ocean.

Lucky you to be so close.

Redlands. I have to agree with you. Is there a possibility of compromise?

I have a friend from our St. Joseph, MO days whose daughter and family (2 boys) lived first in So Cal and then moved to Orinda a couple of years ago. They-- my friend and her husband--winter with the grands. Come and rent a house for several months so Nana can get her fix. When the boys were old enough to put on a plane by themselves, they would fly back to St. Joe for several weeks of summer vacation with their grandparents. Of course now the boys are older and it's not the same as when they were little.

Have you and your wife thought about that as an option? Keep your marvelous house--because the grands will grow up--and instead go for a month or two or three at a time where you rent a nearby house or apartment? Just a thought.

6. I'm still trying to convince her to try another way.

The area of Redlands we are looking at is a nice one, but as you know, itís in the middle of a pretty scrubby looking desert area. It isnít far to drive out to the Anza-Borrego, or up to the mountains and lake at Big Bear. Still...

My idea is this: we buy a home there in the nice older area of town. Housing prices should go up over the next couple of years because they are building a commuter rail from Redlands to LA. We own this place, so we keep it as a rental and move back up here when the time comes.

Weíve also thought about renting down there, as you suggest.

Weíll see. Itís only an hour flight down there, and the tickets are cheap.

10. Thanks for the lovely California beach pictures

I was heartbroken yesterday to see a cruise missile being shot off less than 100 miles from Long Beach, Catalina and the Channel Islands, the first test since the 1990s. My dear daughter had a sailboat and they spent a lot of time on Catalina and kayaking in the Channel Islands Park and the grandchildren got to enjoy this great area. I spent a lot of my long life demonstrating and working to try to save our country and the world from nuclear war. All I can do now is pray that we will not destroy our planet for our dear children and grandchildren.

12. nice pics! Definitely makes me want to travel up there again. We've spent a fair

amount of time renting/airbnbing/camping around point reyes and inverness. All magic.

I'm guessing you're around sonoma or santa rosa currently?

We're in the Cordelia area, between Fairfield and Napa.

15. Orange County...our girls live in the Bay Area so we have excuses to

go up often.

When we retire we might move up closer to them...so understand your move! Pricey everywhere though...we've owned our small place for a long time so changing venue would be expensive

16. We have a reverse situation. :)

Our daughters live in Redlands and San Diego, so we'll be going south.

My wife retires in December, so we'll start house hunting then. This place is paid off, but like you we have lived here a long time. We'll certainly be paying more in property taxes.

Glad that you enjoyed the photos.
