Theme suggestions and schedule for August photo contest

Do you have a particular theme that you would like to see as the subject of the August photo contest? If you do, then post it in this thread.

I'll plan on leaving this thread open for suggestions until we have 10 themes to choose from (too many?), or until the evening of the 28th (whichever comes first).

I will post a poll of themes on the morning of the 29th, and let voting run until midnight on the 31st. In the event of a tie for 1st place, I will make the final decision.

The morning of August 1st I will announce the winning theme, and encourage all to get out there and shoot!

Submission thread will be opened on August 6, and will remain open thru August 20, or until we get 30 entries (whichever comes first).

Preliminary voting will run from the 21st thru the 23rd.

Final voting will run from the 24th thru the 26th.

Winners announced, and torch passed, on the 27th.

Does this seem like a reasonable plan? Open to all suggestions, as long as they don't involve me injuring myself, or publicly humiliating myself in some way.

7. Janis Joplin may have done a cover

of Summertime which is from the opera, Porgy and Bess. Music by George Gershwin and Libretto by DuBose Heyward. Premiered in 1935.

9. One of our hosts has reminded me that the Summer contest will run in September.

As much as I like a theme related to the song Summertime, it might conflict with the Summer contest (whose theme is Summer).

12. Right now we are in need of a host

for the Summer contest because the winner of the Spring contest is unable to host Summer due to his schedule.

Possibly we could choose to run Summer as a theme in August and then proceed to run a host choice contest in September. It would throw off not having a host for the Autumn contest in December, but maybe someone would volunteer to run that and then we'd be back on schedule?

I guess what I'm saying is that your poll could include making the theme Summertime and the winner would then host September as a contest of choice. We'd just delay needing a host for the next seasonal contest.

how your poll for the August theme works out.

If people want to do Summertime in August, then we aren't missing a host until December for the Autumn contest.

If people choose another theme, then we have the month of August to find a host for the regular Summer contest that runs in September.
