Recent trip to Tuscany: The 'Devil's Bridge'

This is the Ponte della Maddalena over the river Serchio, near Lucca, Italy (where the Rolling Stones played last week!). It's also called the Devil's Bridge. It was important for pilgrims coming from France going to Rome. I did just learn that the leftmost arch was added in the 1900s to accommodate a railroad bed but the rest of the bridge is original from the 1100s.

Do you know why it's called the Devil's Bridge? I'll bet there's a story behind it. Arkansas Granny Sep 2017 #2

Allegedly (AKA made up!) the devil said he'd build the bridge but he'd have to have, in return, the soul of the first to cross it. So they sent a dog. Poor dog!

The reflection in the water reminds me of a bridge in the old medieval town of Amberg, Germany, where I was stationed in the mid-1970's. It was referred to as "The Spectacles" because of the reflection.

It is a beautiful town.

Thank you, CurtEastPoint, for showing me how to link to a published image without having to host it somewhere. I edited my post to add the image.

Have you been to Amberg in your travels?

BTW, it appears that we share a first name.

I have only traveled in Bavaria a bit: Munich, Garmish, Oberammergau, etc. Need to go.

Curt is short for Curtis. We're the best!
