When I bought these Caladium last week at the nursery they appeared to have extra leaves that had not yet opened. This morning I woke to a nice surprise: Flowers that looked, to me, like Jack in the Pulpit. Not sure what to call this type of flower but they are so cool!

(60,010 posts)That is why they are so popular down here in the South.
Plus the bulbs can be saved for another year.
I do cut off the flower when it starts to wilt, as it turns brown and can get mushy.

(15,805 posts)It is great for salad gardens and I always had good luck with herbs, green onions and lettuces that I picked leaves daily. The Caladiums rotated indoors for a cheerful and colorful display across the hearth in summer. The humidity here is very low, often in the single digits, and even if they never bloomed, I really enjoy looking at them.

(2,824 posts)When I asked the gardener at the nursery if the Caladium were about to flower, she said no, the plant just had unfurled leaves. I think she would be surprised to know the plant flowered.
Thanks everyone for the nice comments.
