(22,380 posts)I wish we COULD make a photo of that, especially in these interesting times. Also: I have to watch my sentence structures and use of the language to be sure I'm clear on what I mean to convey.

(10,136 posts)I tend to think of it as "inanimate objects often arranged in a group".
The textbook example is usually a bowl of fruit or a flower arrangement.
Technically shots of prepared food probably qualify, but I tend to discount them.
Lots of cool examples here with some that fall outside the normal definition:

(31,374 posts)and I agree, some which I personally would not categorize as still life--particularly the one of the fireworks exploding over the bridge--but also the single
unmoving objects like the rusted door hinge. I think of still life as requiring the artist's (photographer, in this case) intentional creation in some way, not just walking up to something that is immovable and taking a shot.

(22,380 posts)though in practice I run across arrangements of objects and visuals that are beautiful as they are, and that therefore also fit the theme. Then the angle and the crop become important, not so much whether I did the arranging or not.
If the subject is chosen, I will decide on the direction of it,we'll see.
Later today I will post a short time poll.
