but I remembered the lily pads and have been playing with different crops of the original photo.

3. They're both good, but I actually prefer the first one!

Somehow I feel the concept of "flotation" doesn't show up as well in the second one, but maybe that's just me.

Good luck deciding!

4. Peggy, I agree with you. Most people wouldn't realize that the islands--made of reeds--are floating

but lily pads are kind of ordinary. Living on a floating island feels more exotic.

5. Can you crop it to make the water more prominent?

That would probably help.

If you had one that actually showed them as islands, that (I think) would work better.

8. Yes. I took quite a few photos that day, but the weather was awful. Light was terrible.

Quite overcast. The photos I have which better show the island of reeds are quite dark.

11. I dunno. Don't really like any of the others as much as this one

Cropping to show more water (in background) takes away seeing the reeds that make up the island 'ground'.

and read through the thread. I like the second one for not only the shot itself but what I get to learn from it. I now have to go look up and read about these islands. With the right info in the title people might just get it. If the islands are made out of reeds why now "Floating Reed Islands of Lake Titicaca." Also I've noticed that even if people don't see a connection to the theme and they like it they will vote for what they like. Part of the wonderful lessons I've gotten to learn from non photographer voters that has helped me elsewhere.

13. It is very true what you say about people voting for what they like--even if the photo is a stretch

to fit the theme.
