Related: About this forummy roadside attraction adventure
i hemmed and hawed and spun my wheels for this month's contest and then i got a bolt of inspiration. carhenge can be found in alliance, nebraska and it's only a three-hour drive from here, so i decided it was road trip time. the husband crammed himself into an absurdly small and uncomfortable rental car and put 500 miles under his butt just so i could shoot. at least the car had sirius and we found a good station because there's not much for fm in bfe wyoming/nebraska.
we stayed the night in a town of maybe 900 people last night and hit scotts bluff national monument on the way home.

that road has the only vehicle tunnels in the entire state of nebraska
if you look through the haze, you'll see the lone protrusion of chimney rock

The worst part is that you boasted about it on DU and showed up again the next night though.

(152,915 posts)Carhenge! It made me laugh out loud!
And Scotts Bluff is wonderful.......the rock formations almost look like ancient temple columns.
Glad you had a great time, even though your backside hurts! The pain will vanish, but you'll always have the photos!

(24,146 posts)people have a very specific idea of what nebraska looks like, but i promise there is more than just miles of corn.
i uploaded 120 pics from the trip and it was hard deciding which ones to share here. holy facebook notifications, batman!

(32,270 posts)in the summers when we lived in MO and NE. He had a general aviation pilot's license--back
in those days--and one of their flying adventures one year included chimney rock, carhenge
and Scottsbluff. Mom got to stay home and have her own adventure of a week all by
herself! It was lovely.
