Someone wants to buy one of my photos for her office. She is a therapist who worked with me after my medical disaster, and I consider her a friend at this point as well. She wants to have it printed on glass, or maybe metal. Size would be about 20x24. When she decides how she wants it printed, I will send image to the site of her choice. I retain rights, of course. She hasn't decided on an image yet, but she's interested in my more arty images, which may or may not involve type.
I havent a clue what to charge. Any suggestions are welcome.

(130,865 posts)but I have 2 framed, matted pics in my living room, by a local professional photog, about 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 ft. Here's his 'marketplace.'

(20,886 posts)I was thinking in the range of $150 to $200. So, it looks like I'm in the ballpark.
Any other suggestions are welcome.

(50,554 posts)I did a little pricing...a glass print is going to cost you $125 and a metal one $100. If I was selling to a stranger I would double that, but for a friend who is picking the printing service I would probably put the image on a CD for five bucks and ask her to only print one.

(4,483 posts)This is always the big question. But first, why exactly is the client making the decision on the printing process? When I decide to do a new series of photographs one of the more important decisions is how I'm going to print them. I've printed on glass and metal and they have distinctly different qualities when it comes to rendering an image, especially metal, which can be matte or gloss, transparent or on a white substrate. I just think it's giving up a rather important artistic decision.
Ok back to the pricing, of course one has to cover production and when I say production I mean cost of the print and the time spent on the post production after that it's really up to what you think your value is or you can just go with a percentage of production.

(74 posts)If photography is not the way I normally make money AND the person is truly a friend, I would consider it a huge compliment that they want to display my creation and only charge them my out of pocket costs.
