Related: About this forumAt Christmas my family always takes a ride. We love the lack of traffic and I can just stop anywhere
We had a visitor this year who wanted to see Graffiti.
Asheville NC, though not a huge city, has its wonderful share and then some.
We just happened to know where to go. We kind of overdosed - I hope you like it, anyway.
Its photography that is color and blue skies happy - and at the very end I shot a RESIDENCE out of the car window very near the famous Biltmore House.
These folks have their own police force - and their own city council representation.
I very much hope theyre happy, and above all I hope they help those less fortunate.

(22,380 posts)you would best meet me on the way... I'm in Winston Salem... right between you and Asheville.
My Son and family live in Asheville, and I visit often, love it, consider it a mini vacation, and absolutely adore hanging out in the exquisiteness of it - Art Galleries - Crafts - Hipsters - and all.
Though there is this:
Along with Key West, Palm Springs, and Jackson Hole - Asheville has turned into a tourist destination. Beloved and Charming, yes, expensive and special, yes - but a city to call home and be comfortable in as a resident - NO.
That is the opinion of my son and family and they will be moving to W-S by the middle of next year.
For your purposes you are going to the right city at the right time. IMO

(22,380 posts)You know that I take my photos with my Sony A 65. On A.
I'm just not sharp enough to venture further. But I am sharp enough to appreciate the sliders on iphoto on my mac.
Today I borrowed the lens from my Daughter in Law who is MUCH younger and savvy with things I am not.
here is the link to her setup - I asked her to find it for me so I can study it.

I took maybe 60 or so photos. 10 with her lens. And I can't tell the difference.
Is it me?
I kind of smile, because who knows the answer. It may be my prescription glasses for all I know. I'm just glad I find some things worth showing and some images that make me happy I captured them.......

(60,071 posts)Eyes do change. I have cataracts, so one lens is pretty much the same as the next.
I bet if you put more time with the lens you might see what makes it better, or worse.

(31,374 posts)I'm kind of surprised to hear you say Asheville is no longer livable as a resident because
it's been taken over by tourists. It certainly has been one of the progressive strongholds in the state,
and I hope it doesn't lose that edge.

Do people respect the art and leave it alone?
Some talented folks at work, really very nice.
