Fall Mating
The above is a common red orb weaver spider. Orb Weavers build webs in the fall and you can find them all over in October. The parents will die at first frost, so they mate and secure the egg sac for the Spring birthing.

(90,762 posts)Loving your photos on YouPic!
The wind was blowing during the spider shoot and it was blowing the spider closer and closer to me. I was a wee bit nervous. Got lots of bad shots. lol

Especially its "bouquet"

(90,762 posts)It was either the spider or the one I did enter.
Thanks, Mira!!
Mira

(31,382 posts)I really like the Color Burst!
We have similar spiders building webs here in September. I took shots of one--and then dispatched him to
spider heaven--because they spin their webs out on our deck and I don't want to run into a spider web
going out to take a night shot!
I'm holding back my almost submission for the Fall contest.

(90,762 posts)Poor spider!
An orb weaver built her web right across my front walk and I had to remove the web. (more than once) She finally built on my shrubs. So I left her alone. I'm spider friendly as long as they can't kill me. The deadly ones have to go.
Don't know what I'll do for the fall contest.

(31,382 posts)Every time I opened the door, down went the web.
But the one I dispatched? I was afraid that one would crawl up under the table umbrella--and had
spun the web connected to the hanger for the hummingbird feeder. I would not let a hummer
get caught in that web. So...

(90,762 posts)I've removed more praying mantises from around my feeders than I can count. After I remove them I place them on objects so I can get photos of them.
I just have a thing for bugs and creepy crawlies. Still, I've dispatched quite a few deadly ones. (and will again)

(24,556 posts)although I especially love the Fall Mating. The hood ornament try out was wonderful...one of my all time favorites.
Solly Mack
(90,762 posts)I liked the hood ornament because it was a mockingbird...a mockingbird mocking a hood ornament.
I like spiders so I'm fond of that one too.

(19,459 posts)The carnival in Germany shot takes me back to my younger days as a young soldier stationed in Germany.
I sure did like the beer (especially Tücher) but I never did understand the wisdom of locating the beer tent next to the carnival rides...

(90,762 posts)My German friend Thomas got me into it. He ran the pastry and coffee cart at the carnival. We'd see him once or twice a year. Made the best Irish Coffee and Milch Cafe....not to mention all those donuts!
His wagon was always next to the roller coaster and like a fool, I had me a very strong Irish coffee and went on the coaster. Bad mistake.
Thanks!

(19,459 posts)I recall (barely) drinking two liter steins in the beer tent at a Bierfest in Amberg, and then going for a spin on a ride that was something akin to the Octopus...
Unwise decision, that...

(90,762 posts)A mad Italian fell in love with at the beer tent we were parked at for several hours. No amount of explaining that the man with me was my husband could quash his ardor. I told my husband not to leave me alone with my mad Italian and the next thing I knew my husband was off to the bathroom. I got the wettest kiss ever the second my husband disappeared. The mad Italian apologized. Couldn't help himself. The remainder of my beer went over his head.
My husband and I left the tent - didn't want problems - only to meet up with 5 raging drunk Australians who just walked up to me and started eating my pommes frites. They were starving, you see. So we introduced ourselves all around and everyone got more pommes frites. We spent the next couple of hours tent hopping and having a really good time.
I had fun. lol
