Music Appreciation
Related: About this forumu2 - bad (live-1985-wide awake) no joke, out of many thousands, this is my all-time favorite song
I mean there's so many close competitors like Day in the Life, Achilles Last Stand, Pictures of You, Here Comes a Regular to name a few ... but if you made me pick an absolute favorite song ever ... it's this.

First I have to admit I could never pick just one favorite song, I have so many favorite songs.
I love, musically, songs that start out low and slow and slowly build to a frenzy. I know youve seen this band in concert a few times & I bet this one was fabulous to experience in person. U2 has so many great ones.... Desire ... Mysterious Ways ... One ...With or Without You .. Oh just way way too many to mention. Im such a huge fan. HUGE I TELL YA!

From 1986 I think.
A 'builder', like we both love ... last couple of minutes are ecstatic, in my book.
Pretty certain this is actually live (not w/an audience though) cause it's not the record version exactly.
Keyboard player is Karl Wallinger, who left after this album to create World Party.
It's so freaking good
You just flew
I wondered, I guessed, and I tried ...
You just knew
I sighed ...
While you swooned
I saw the crescent ...
You saw the whole of the moon

As long as were talking about builders..... theres this classic that I fell in love with the very first time I heard it....

And yes I know some people argue that Limp Bizkits is better but I prefer the original Who.

Alright I got a couple for ya.
This band is from Virginia, fronted by 3 brothers (turns out, their dad's name is Bill if you can believe it).
I've turned three friends on to this record, and they all love it. This is the 'epic' track on Sirens, but literally every song is good.
This was the single from the album ... I promise you'll like it, based on my knowing your general taste. FYI, the guy mumbling at the beginning is Vonnegut.
And here's a live version of the first track. I won't say it's better than the studio one, but it's pretty damn good, and the Sons are easy on the eyes anyways.

(33,643 posts)The video where Bono's mic has the rainbow on it are from the soundcheck, when the rainbow's not there, and/or you see people, that is the concert itself ... but the song we're listening to was just them warming up before the show.
How good was a U2 soundcheck in 1984?
