1977 Debut Albums battle of the bands

Dedicated to the Twittiot who told me that 70's band were all shit compared to the 60s or 90s bands

The selection rules: I'm only including rock and roll albums that I owned. Even the ones I didn't actually buy IN 1977. No country (Joe ELY) or Funk (Slave) or R&B (Maze) that I also bought back in my younger days

Television

Talking Heads

Elvis Costello

Motorhead

Cheap Trick

Damned

38 Special

Total career I go the Heads followed very closely by Elvis (and that would vary by day) Hugh_Lebowski Jul 2021 #1
I was ticking debut records I loved from the 70s off in my mind The Polack MSgt Jul 2021 #2

Just judging by the debut album in play though Marquee Moon was lightning in a bottle so I go with that one for best album of these particular choices.

and I realized that the first 4 or 5 I remembered were all released in 77.

Quick google search later and I was looking for ways to narrow the field.

77 had a bumper crop of really good bands hit the streets

But voted Heads, just for total career. But Marquee Moon sure is a great debut.

Although I loved that first EC album & was a Television fan, in spades.
In support of your argument of those silly anti-70s meatheads:
The Police
The Cars
Heart
Def Leppard
Van Galen
Scorpions
Foreigner
Boston
Genesis
..., plus those you listed. And many others.
All released debut albums in the seventies, most of them in the latter half of the decade.
So, we barely have to go back to '70-'75!
