this was a concert there following the Fair proper. 72 was the fourth year of the Fair if memory serves.

I had a girlfriend who claimed that the Dead parachuted in to the Veneta scene one year. Can anyone confirm that?

Anyone remember the bubble man? That impressed me more than anything else.

I saw every Red Rocks show they ever did, but it was my first show at Folsom Field in September '72 which was the most memorable. Two things happened I've never seen at any other show.

First of all, it was a long show. Eight hours total with several long breaks. At one point, it quickly clouded over, and the band took the clue to play "I Know You Rider', and when the rain started coming down, the famous lines came forth. "I wish I was a headlight on a north-bound train. I'd shine my light through the cool Colorado rain." It was a typical Colorado storm. It poured and the sun was out a few minutes later. Rainstorms are common at outdoor shows, but what happened next isn't. In the spirit of Woodstock, I guess, over half the crowd stripped down to their birthday suits. As a college freshman, I was pleasantly surprised.

Also, during one of their breaks, two guys came onto the stage with garbage bags and started tossing "lids" into the audience. Each lid came complete with zig-zag papers, a roach-clip, and a note saying, "Courtesy of Boulder drug dealers". It was also the only show time I got to see Pig Pen.

Memories.

(Got to talk with Bill Walton at many of the Red Rocks shows. There was also a Red Rocks show in '78 when two friends of mine didn't have tickets and of course it was sold out, so they joined the people searching for tickets on the side of the road. Their "miracle" happened when a limo pulled up and gave them both backstage passes, so not only did they get get to see the show from in back of the stage, afterwards they partied with the band as well.)
