Roxy Erickson dead at 71.

I didn’t start listening to the 13th floor elevator until the 80’s. To me, they were the original punks. In 1966, while every Baby Boomer was growing their hair, this band had nice boy haircuts.
I really felt sorry for Roky. He suffered from schizophrenia. My brother and sister suffered from that very disease. However, Like Brian Wilson who suffered from that mental illness, Roky was a creative Genius. Goodbye forever, however your music will live on forever.

heard it now. another good show. I'll listen for the Electric Jug now when I hear 13th floor elevators.
Question
At the end of the first set was the comment "When we started this thing a year and a half ago...". Does this refer to getting the show on the air or were there earlier shows. Any new show is good as I'm caught up in the archives.

Expecting new music from an oldies station sounds ridiculous but its there every week. Both new R&R and old songs I'd never heard. Thanks for the great shows and all the extra typing to put them on the net.

2. So sorry to hear this.

Roky was a true visionary and legend.
I did see him once in Austin at a one day festival called The Hill on the Moon. It was in '73 and Roky wasn't really up to performing. Most unfortunate.

Hadn't been too long since he'd been released from Rusk Mental Hospital, fresh off a course of electroshock and Thorazine. Rusk was the hospital for the criminally insane at the time. A lovely place.

I loved the guy. Here's one from Easter Everywhere.
