(22,356 posts)At the time I thought it was the heaviest song ever.
Now I think it is amusing and humorous

(171 posts)seems like the band knew this song and two others. Heard it countless times that night, still not tired of it.

(4,605 posts)She had a great mixed tape she made recording songs off the radio. We'd listen to it when she drove to two of us up to my Grandma's house.
Spirit in the Sky, the Nash Rambler song (the horn went beep beep beep), Tell Laura I Love Her, In the Year 2525, Leader of the Pack, lots of Supremes tunes, some harder 70's rock like Don't Fear the Reaper and Queen songs, and a bunch more.
We'd sing the whole way. Neither of us can carry a tune in a bucket, but that just made it even more fun.
ETA a couple more songs. Can't believe I remember which songs were on there, it was 30 years ago. But Spirit in the Sky is the song I associate most strongly with the tape.

(33,643 posts)And I had it on the mix tape I was listening to on my way down, along with songs by Violent Femmes, Replacements, REM, Peter Gabriel, U2 ... to name a few ... I knew the original of course, but I dug this cover too ... fun to drive fast to ...

I first heard it at 10th St. South, Cocoa Beach, FL on vacation in 1969. It played all the time.
