One, of many reasons, modern "country music" sucks

This guy has a great YouTube channel, but this video made so much sense to me in the points he is making. Hope some of you enjoy!

8. Sadly, that's what Nashville is selling these days

It's an attempt to homogenize the sound and it's awful!

2. Reminds me of an article I recently read how the quality of music is decreasing.

It was about how all songs are mixed to sound the same: Singer, guitar, drums, keyboard all having the same level of volume. This is a popular sound listeners like on a subconscious level, but at the same time, it makes bland, forgettable songs. (And some songs sound really crappy because of this. e.g. whispered words combined with shredding electric guitars)

Compare that to songs with different instruments of different volumes, mixing loud and quiet passages.

Another thing was how pop-songs all use the same whooping-cry "Oh-oh oh-oh" in the refrain to hook the audience. It sounds good one the surface, but it makes songs boring and replacable.

4. It was a youtube video I believe ... I saw that one too ... COMPRESSION

Is the name of the process that equalizes volumes, keeps them steady ...

Compression is an iconic and essential 'effect' that's been used forever for metal/hard rock electric guitars (along with distortion of course), but it can definitely be overdone when applied to the overall mix of a song.

3. Hear, Hear! I agree ...

Though a lot of mainstream country (and most other genres) has sucked for a long time ... he's right its demise is accelerating, and the fact that it's become just pop with a twang to the vocals and slightly more 'down home' kind of lyrics.

But ... it's all about what sells.

And I'm not worried that decent country music is gonna disappear ... Stapleton, Isbell, and Simpson (for example) are selling plenty of records and concert tickets, after all, so ... whatever.

9. Agreed

Country music, or at least what makes country country, will still be found if your willing to search for it, and I'm glad that acts like those you've mentioned are getting the spotlight that they are...I guess the better question is, who's doing the same for rock music currently? That would make a good thread
