Related: About this forumI crocheted this cute Democratic Donkey for TrogL...
I was criticized on FB for not adding the stars and using the wrong blue.

(695 posts)The designer thought I did an awesome job as well. I was just curious and a bit upset because I had worked so hard on him

(10,525 posts)Great job. Some people will always find something to snark about, so pay them no mind.

(2,140 posts)He's adorable and obviously well-loved by the recipient. That's all that matters.
Unless it is a kit, not many people use the same yarn and/or colors as the original pattern (and even with a kit, people have been known to make substitutions). There are no crochet police! You could have made him orange, purple, and green if you wanted to do so, and it's none of anyone's business but your own.

(573 posts)what it is, but the funny thing, most of those people can't do the project to begin with.
I think he's great! My daughter does things like that and it amazes me. I only do afghans and Shawls. You got my vote.

(14,807 posts)the stars addition. You might try two (small) wool felt stars. One blue and one red. Then place them under the eyes like the blue one on the striped side and vice versa. That might really snazz him up.
I think this could be a money raiser. Maybe get a bunch of Dems making them and getting $100 donations for good candidates. Just a thought....

(826 posts)creativity. Anyone who crochets knows how hard it is to make something 3-D and others should not say a word until they pick up a hook and try a treble stitch.
Congratulations on making the Donkey.
