A drawing of my son when he was 14 years old
He was drawing quietly so I took advantage of his stillness to draw this portrait. It was around 1985.

4. Yes, it is hanging in my home.
I live alone and don’t use the dining room so I’ve converted it into my studio. I use the table as my work table pushed up against the wall to make space for the easel. All my drawings are on the walls.
Thanks, |

7. I've entered some of my art in showings
but never one of my own. I’ve been commissioned a few times. But I don’t pursue it anymore. Too many bad experiences. Now that I’m retired I’m quite happy just doing my art just for art’s sake.

6. What a beautiful drawing
It's amazing. He is a beautiful young man. You capture the depth of his focus on what he is drawing. His whole being is actively engaged in his art, and he radiates a meditative peace.
Thank you, for sharing your amazing art, lunatica. |

8. Yes, he was definitely in the zone
It was the perfect time to draw his portrait because he was very still and completely unaware of himself.
It’s not the same when you draw in figure drawing groups with a live model. Because their poses are so long, and there is silence, they tend to look very detached. |

12. Beautiful! If I ever manage to do credible portraits, I have some photos of my boys
and my cats I would like to try.

13. Well my advice is to just do it
In art practice and learning from your mistakes is the best way to learn. It’s actually guaranteed that you’ll get better and better.
Even Ansel Adams said that for every good photo he took he threw away dozens that didn’t work. |
