But you still have to mow the weeds so they don't take over.

I love the centipede grass we put in. It stays short and most of the time it's dense enough to discourage weeds. It's drought resistant and once established doesn't need watering except where it's thin. Best of all, I only had to pay for the labor to put the sod in - it was invasive in our pastures and we just took out some of the centipede from the thicker areas.
