Some curious things I noticed in the photo of Pence's brief stay at the game (yea, I'm bored)

The Army (I think) officer, next to him isn't saluting OR putting his hand over his heart. Admittedly, I've forgotten a lot of the protocol, but I seem to remember, during my enlistment, they did more than stand at attention, sans their hat.

The guy behind them appears to have placed his left hand somewhere on his lower right chest. Perhaps he had an itch. Mrs. Pence just looks irked at something. Perhaps the kneeling players. And the female behind her? Not sure what's going on, there.

Ok, I'm done being ridiculously superficial. Time for my sedating nightcap.

However, I did see someone, on another site, refer to the medals he is wearing as "lettuce". I was definitely able to remember that the correct term is "Fruit Salad". At least it was, in the Navy. Much like the gold flourish on their hats were called 'Scrambled Eggs'. So some things haven't completely disappeared from my memory bank!

I do also remember that I so hated getting caught outside, during Taps, when I was in uniform.

it as Fruit Salad. And scrambled eggs on the visor for field grade officers is still valid.

Parade rest has often been the custom for the anthem. Whether right or not, that was what I was taught eons ago. I never put my hand over my heart. Yesterday at the UNC football game, I took notice of the fans around me. Women mostly had their hands over their hears, maybe half of the men did. Men over about 40 mostly stood at attention or parade rest with their hands to their sides or behind them.

He was in President Truman's Honor Guard and he was deeply patriotic.

He was also a football player and a football coach. I suspect he and I would not have agreed about this situation, but I'll never know. I know he had a strong belief in justice, so we would have had some great conversations.

Military indoors stand at attention when anthem is playing. But you have me looking closer at the photo. What the were people in his entourage doing? The man behind him, the lady behind is wife and the man on the far right.

But yea, the people behind them are pretty 'loosey goosey'. Good thing old "Torquemada" Pence didn't turn around and see them!

Maybe someone needs to write up a comprehensive list of patriotic etiquette.

I think that's weird. They all look grumpy to me.
