am i the only one that kinda sorta feels sorry for spicey?

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by muriel_volestrangler (a host of the The DU Lounge forum).

... I get the feeling he was in an abusive relationship. He never looked genuine or happy when he was forced to spew all that shit to the public. You know when he looked happy? At the Emmys. And the fact HE was there and Donnie wasn't!

He stayed because he craved the fame and fortune that he imagined that riding Trump's coat tails would lead to a lucrative future career in the media. He stuck with it and willingly let himself be used as Trump's lying lacky, he was Igor the craven lickspittle, a creature as equally devoid of ethical integrity as his master.

No question, Trump treated Spicer badly, but Spicer signed up for the job. He had to have known Trump was a duplicitous douche who'd throw anybody under the bus without hesitation - he probably thought he could keep Trump happy by lying through his teeth every day for him. But he sucked at his job, and the lies he had to tell for Trump caught up with him and made him look like the tool he is. He's probably glad he doesn't have to work for Trump any more, but I don't feel sorry for him.

I don't feel sorry for Spicer at all. He made his own bed.

Now, given the passage of time and the ability to modify one's political views, I could perhaps gain a modicum of respect for Spicer's perspective. It's happened with David Frum, whom I used to think was disgusting but I have now come to appreciate his views on Trump's administration, if nothing else.

it seemed to me that he was really happy at the Emmys to be making fun of what he used to do. I am sure that it's a thousand times more pleasant to be among liberals than among the cruel, humorless RW, and I hope that if he feels welcome he might be very, very willing to stab Trump in the back.

question him about those lies, he got nasty with them.

Now he insists that he never knowingly lied. No remorse at all. He is just trying to cash in on his notoriety, and he resents that his lack of credibility is an obstacle to being offered a job in one of those pundit panel shows..

No, I don't feel sorry for him.

It's easy to feel sorry for him because he has been humanized over the last couple of weeks, but don't let him pull on your heartstrings. He is still the same guy up at that podium day in, day out. He had no problem lying then, he had no problem lying now. Just a different shade for this chameleon.
