We visited the EAA Museum in Oshkosh today and it was mostly very cool for this aviation buff; however, I was a little disappointed about the lack of representation of women. They had a huge hangar with tail art, cheesecake stuff, but only one small wall and one display case for women in aviation. I was a little embarrassed. They also had only one glider on display that I could see and it was a very primitive, historic model. Oh well. I'm still glad I went. I did use the comment book.

(149,588 posts)I too made a trip to Ripon some years ago. I had been born there, but only lived there a few months. It was wartime and my dad was drafted when I was a few months old, so my mom and I moved away to Illinois to live with her parents till my dad came home.
I took a trip to Ripon to see my original hometown, and I was enchanted. How different my life would have been if I'd gotten to grow up there. My dad had been teaching in Ripon College.
I visited the home where my parents had lived and the people there allowed me to come in and have a look around. I also visited the hospital and got a tour.
I had always wondered what the town had looked like and my trip filled in some big gaps for me. I'm sorry your experience wasn't very good for you.

(16,377 posts)My 20-year-old goes to school at Ripon and he loves it, too. It was the museum at Oshkosh I had some problems with but I enjoyed it overall. Ripon is a sweet little town. When we first visited Ripon a couple of years ago to look at the college, it was right before the holidays and the town was putting on their "Dickens Christmas." We were also enchanted. I also love driving around and looking at the houses here and wondering "what if?"
In addition to Oshkosh, we also visited Green Lake, just four miles from Ripon and it's also a lovely little town with a very impressive lake!

(70,187 posts)It is just something different also with the kids when young. Also used to rent out the place for a week and leave town several times--way too many people for me. that was years ago and the Convention has GROWN. I taught at UW-Oshkosh for several years. Town is too conservative for me, so left for Madison.
