I try to find common ground with anyone I interact with, or at least try to bring a discussion back to civility prior to ending the discussion.

I have a lot of conservative friends on Facebook, and when I eventually agree to disagree with them, I tell them to have a nice day.

It's only words, and there's no reason to hold a grudge. We choose our political positions based on the people we are surrounded by, our past experiences, and how we perceive politics will affect our life.
There's no reason for us to be so ugly toward one another that we have to put others on ignore. Imho.

There are certain posters who are so useless and ugly in their opinions that they are completely unworthy of your time and attention. Using the Ignore function on them is a genuine pleasure---why "engage" with individuals who are obvious and irredeemable fuckheads? I've been here at DU since its inception, and I don't have a great number of people on Ignore; it seems to me that I eliminated more posters during the course of the 2016 campaign than any other time. an ignore - and that's my policy on any site that I've ever been on. If something is really odious, I point it out to the poster. If they don't see it - or it's not a useful discussion, I move on. It's the internet. Even people that I disagree with, are probably a whole lot easier to talk to face-to-face. Besides, it's not my job to convince anyone of anything. I might bring up points I like or information I have - but I'm okay with letting things be, too.

Over time, I've even found that people I really dislike - will post something that explains who they are, or makes them more sympathetic to me. I may still dislike their opinion about something, but I come to respect a certain part of who they are, too.

I don't have anyone on full ignore, but I have a couple dozen at any given time in my Block Mail list. Some are short-term trolls that last a day, others are long time posters who I think are doing the long con on DU. Most of them are eventually PPRed, although I have some old stragglers on there who haven't' posted in a year or more, or never agreed to the new TOS. I go through the list once every few months and clear out the ones that were PPRed and get a dose of feeling smug about it.

I do hide threads sometimes, but more out of self-protection like someone above said - I don't post a lot and am generally even-keeled, but sometimes I have a hard time keeping my snark or frustration in check when people are being obtuse or dangling bait or whatever. So by hiding a thread I can keep myself from chiming in.

occasionally I'll see an old post showing the names of people I suspected were trolls. When I click on their profile, many if not all are just like you said: either PPRd, FFRd, or didn't agree to the new terms. It's not surprising.

One of them started a thread several days ago that was well regarded and I saw that person's username again for the first time in months because of it.

I tried to remember the reason for our dispute and it wouldn't come back to me. It's buried too deep in my post history to go looking for it. I removed that individual from ignore. Figured we could start back at "square one" and see how things go (unless he/she has me on ignore).

And it has saved my sanity, blood pressure, and possibly prevented me saying something that would get me kicked off DU.

One posts nothing but "Link to Tweet" crap with no added commentary, pure click-bait to boost their post-count.

The other posts nothing but teaser subject lines and links to their own blog.

I didn't have many on there, and most of them were people that went to that other site. I haven't been in a mood to take a lot of shit, so we'll see how long it stays empty.

got some in 2 weeks ago and when I called the day before they said UPS would be there before noon. I called the next day around 10am and they were already sold out. The guy said the line started at 1am - which is completely ridiculous for my little town. LOL. They told me more would be in around 4/16 at $499 but I only want it for Zelda so cannot justify that price. It's OK, I can wait. It just seems dumb to release in such limited quantities.

As long as Nintendo can keep making great games I'm happy.

Though sadly, I'm kind of disenchanted from Zelda now. I'm not motivated by any of the current games to get a Switch at the moment.

Walmart.

Sadly I think this will be my last Nintendo console purchase. Don't get me wrong, I love the Switch but I am not as good at Zelda as I once was (been playing since 1986) and even with my reading glasses on have to walk over to the TV to read stuff on the screen - red text on black background does not work well for me!

There is soooo much to this game that I love. Did you ever play any of the Zelda games?

My last question was with twilight princess and windwaker.

Played all of them before that.

I'm not interested in the new one. It's just not Zelda to me.

I'm much more invested in indie games now. And sadly, alongside your words, I think the Wii u might be my last Nintendo console.

I wish I could take everyone off, but some people aren't as interested in a good conversation as they are using propaganda and bashing. The conversations go nowhere. Combined with the Trump stress, am forced to use.

Disagreements or not, I'd never put longtime DUers on ignore... There's so few of us left these days, anyway.

very quickly, most of them let you know exactly why you put them on Ignore

it is amazing how many long-term under-the-radar trolls exist on DU
