Should I unignore them all at once? What will happen?
UPDATE: I just purged them all. Let's see what happens!

(23,307 posts)Thank you.

(10,345 posts)You seem very helpful and I appreciate that. As long as you're not a Dump 45 sympathizer, you're A-okay in my book. Cheers!

(10,345 posts)I was a very adamant Bernie supporter, but broken rank and highly discouraged Bernie or Busters as soon as Bernie lost the primaries.
If you wanted to know my background in this. Bernie had my vote in the primaries and Hillary in the General.

(13,869 posts)Some threads won't make sense. Someone may be replying to a post of someone you have on Ignore, but that means you won't see the Ignored poster's post, so the reply may not make sense.

(44,112 posts)That's a list where you name who you don't want on your jury if a post of yours ever gets alerted on.
MontanaMama
(23,307 posts)Is that on the profile page?

(16,934 posts)Anybody on Facebook who supports the traitor government we have, I put on a list I call 'commie sympathizers'. Makes me feel better. I was told commie is incorrect. But for my own use, it has more impact than russian sympathizer. Just call me joe

(44,112 posts)Most of them seemed like trolls to me at the time, that's why I put them on ignore in the first place.
Will probably be true of your list as well.

(34,136 posts)If someone repeatedly pisses me off so much that I might do something that could get me banned, I put them on Ignore. It got me through the primaries without damage.
Every so often I clear out my Ignore list - except for two names. They've earned permanent positions.
I Trash a LOT more threads than I use Ignore on people.

(38,310 posts)I used to pride myself for not ignoring anyone.
Until I realized the ignored's agenda was wasting my time.
I no longer pay any attention to single issue shills.
Sure it's a value judgment, but I prefer to interact with humans having a multitude of interests.

(51,308 posts)You posted that your co-workers gave you "hard stares" when you greeted them.
You used to brag about leaving DU for the "jack" site. You put Hillary down all the time.
And now you post how many you have on your ignore list.
Maybe time for a look in the mirror?
You'll probably never read this because I'm sure I'm on that list. But hey, there's a pattern here.
retrowire
(10,345 posts)And look at this kind of finger pointing with a lack of empathy!
And boohoo about the jack site which I denounced and the Hillary barbs I gave. I fucking told everyone at the "jack site" that it was better to vote for Hillary so maybe you wanna bury that hatchet as I have mine.
Or you could go on with your judgement...?

(18,101 posts)Start an off-topic thread in the lounge about judging other DUers, and you might just get judged yourself. Not a believer in the golden rule, huh?
retrowire
(10,345 posts)And it's the lounge... How is this off topic?
But by all means, defend the user who pointed out how I have no friends and that it's probably my fault without knowing any of my story. Yep, you're on the higher ground with that one.
Blanks
(4,835 posts)I try to find common ground with anyone I interact with, or at least try to bring a discussion back to civility prior to ending the discussion.
I have a lot of conservative friends on Facebook, and when I eventually agree to disagree with them, I tell them to have a nice day.
It's only words, and there's no reason to hold a grudge. We choose our political positions based on the people we are surrounded by, our past experiences, and how we perceive politics will affect our life.
There's no reason for us to be so ugly toward one another that we have to put others on ignore. Imho.

(10,345 posts)Damn, it's just conversation. You think I'm proud of my inability to suffer fool's?
Oh wait that is something to be proud of.
But either way, it's not a badge of honor. I'm not really proud of it, which is why I brought it up for discussion.
Who the fuck brags about how many people they ignore? All I did was ask if I should unblock and what would happen if I did?

Not to say new ones wont show up, i believe i used it last month, but have cleared my previous tags in the past and it appears most are gone when i do. If they are here for disruption and dont get it I think they move on
I am an advocate for the ignore function. No time for harsh, or repetitive BS
To newbies I will add that you also can ignore a whole group
I have one group on ignore right now.

(40,416 posts)I have used it in the past, but no longer for some time.
I want to engage with people with whom I disagree, not ignore them. I cannot think of a more useless enterprise than ignoring them.
Paladin
(28,252 posts)There are certain posters who are so useless and ugly in their opinions that they are completely unworthy of your time and attention. Using the Ignore function on them is a genuine pleasure---why "engage" with individuals who are obvious and irredeemable fuckheads? I've been here at DU since its inception, and I don't have a great number of people on Ignore; it seems to me that I eliminated more posters during the course of the 2016 campaign than any other time. I'm sure that's true of other DU participants, as well.
longship
(40,416 posts)One can just ignore those posts which grind one.
I want DU unblemished by my own biases.
YMMV.
Paladin
(28,252 posts)And I've expended countless enjoyable hours, arguing with posters whose viewpoints don't jibe precisely with my own. But I will not suffer fools gladly, and obnoxious shit-for-brains don't even merit a glance from me. Thank you, Ignore function.
retrowire
(10,345 posts)Like they're not disagreeing with you they're just harassing you, insulting you etc...
longship
(40,416 posts)And the MIR Team is always on the job. I suggest that DUers serve a term or two in order to educate themselves on exactly how DU works behind the scenes.
Certainly some here are bad DU citizens, but ignore just makes any contribution they might make invisible.
I prefer to encourage positive engagement rather than turning my back. I do not take disagreement as a personal attack.
YMMV.
retrowire
(10,345 posts)And that's not a huge loss considering if their contribution was good enough, it gets to the greatest page and I'll see it anyway.
So I can see great contributions without their snark. That's how it works for me anyways.
I don't take disagreement as a personal attack either. I take it as an attack when people ask me to look in the mirror because I have no friends without knowing ANY of the details.
Plus, alert doesn't always work.
longship
(40,416 posts)I just don't use ignore. I can ignore on my own. And I'll take DU as it is, with both the good and the bad.
My best to you.
retrowire
(10,345 posts)And if so, was there a different way I could have responded?
longship
(40,416 posts)I took your response with the highest respect.
That is why I don't use Ignore, because I do not take disagreement as a personal affront. In fact, I am rather a fan of your posts. They are genuinely intelligent and well thought.
Let's not let this minor disagreement spoil that. I certainly have no intention of doing so.
As always,
retrowire
(10,345 posts)And your approach to this has been honest, direct and astute. And it's confused me because of the normal back and forth one experiences online. It was hard to read your emotion through the text and so I was worried I made this conversation abnormal.
I don't ignore people for disagreements. I ignore them for rude attacks on my personal self. So, no this conversation does not tip that needle for me, I was just worried about how I presented myself.
Thank you though!
longship
(40,416 posts)That is one reason why I don't pay much credence to them. I give people the benefit of the doubt.
I find your presentation here as amongst the best of DU. It is always thoughtful.

(4,429 posts)an ignore - and that's my policy on any site that I've ever been on. If something is really odious, I point it out to the poster. If they don't see it - or it's not a useful discussion, I move on. It's the internet. Even people that I disagree with, are probably a whole lot easier to talk to face-to-face. Besides, it's not my job to convince anyone of anything. I might bring up points I like or information I have - but I'm okay with letting things be, too.
Over time, I've even found that people I really dislike - will post something that explains who they are, or makes them more sympathetic to me. I may still dislike their opinion about something, but I come to respect a certain part of who they are, too.
Blue_Tires
(55,445 posts)But when I start besting people I disagree with in arguments and they fucking alert spam on me (and win), it's game over... I've let myself get baited into too many deleted posts and two suspensions playing that bullshit game.
To say nothing of the fact that I know that certain posters I've disagreed with (and trolls/sockpuppets I've outed) have openly lobbied the admins to get me banned...
I used to have your philosophy on it, but my battles over Trayvon Martin and Snowden's Defection changed all that.

(25,816 posts)If I don't always agree with a particular poster, I can decide not to open their
posts. I think it's better to see what others opinions are. I have never done
the jury thing either. And only one alert in my days here.
Generic Brad
(14,274 posts)The people who got under my skin never engaged with me, but their trollish behavior made me want to ensure they could not judge me. Since the election i have purged my jury blacklist since every last one of them gave a "Good-bye Cruel World" post after Trump won. They are long gone now. Bye-bye to the Russian bots.
Warpy
(111,241 posts)but I went through them a couple of weeks ago and found that many of them have not been back since election day, most of them for a little longer than that.
It looks a lot like my ignore list was a Republican troll list.
Anyone who is still active is still on the list. I don't need gratuitously nasty people in my life. However, half of them are gone from DU, so they're off the list.

(4,959 posts)Does anyone else do that?
I don't have anyone on full ignore, but I have a couple dozen at any given time in my Block Mail list. I add people when I'm convinced they will get themselves banned someday so I can see if my instinct was right. Some are short-term trolls that last a day, others are long time posters who I think are doing the long con on DU. Most of them are eventually PPRed, although I have some old stragglers on there who haven't' posted in a year or more, or never agreed to the new TOS. I go through the list once every few months and clear out the ones that were PPRed and get a dose of feeling smug about it.
I do hide threads sometimes, but more out of self-protection like someone above said - I don't post a lot and am generally even-keeled, but sometimes I have a hard time keeping my snark or frustration in check when people are being obtuse or dangling bait or whatever. So by hiding a thread I can keep myself from chiming in.
Phentex
(16,334 posts)occasionally I'll see an old post showing the names of people I suspected were trolls. When I click on their profile, many if not all are just like you said: either PPRd, FFRd, or didn't agree to the new terms. It's not surprising.
True Dough
(17,301 posts)One of them started a thread several days ago that was well regarded and I saw that person's username again for the first time in months because of it.
I tried to remember the reason for our dispute and it wouldn't come back to me. It's buried too deep in my post history to go looking for it. I removed that individual from ignore. Figured we could start back at "square one" and see how things go (unless he/she has me on ignore).

(8,171 posts)got some in 2 weeks ago and when I called the day before they said UPS would be there before noon. I called the next day around 10am and they were already sold out. The guy said the line started at 1am - which is completely ridiculous for my little town. LOL. They told me more would be in around 4/16 at $499 but I only want it for Zelda so cannot justify that price. It's OK, I can wait. It just seems dumb to release in such limited quantities.

Sadly I think this will be my last Nintendo console purchase. Don't get me wrong, I love the Switch but I am not as good at Zelda as I once was (been playing since 1986) and even with my reading glasses on have to walk over to the TV to read stuff on the screen - red text on black background does not work well for me!
There is soooo much to this game that I love. Did you ever play any of the Zelda games?
retrowire
(10,345 posts)My last question was with twilight princess and windwaker.
Played all of them before that.
I'm not interested in the new one. It's just not Zelda to me.
I'm much more invested in indie games now. And sadly, alongside your words, I think the Wii u might be my last Nintendo console.
