Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI got my AOL email back!
But it was a pain in the ass to get, since it had been hacked! I was on the phone for a long time with tech support and then the call got dropped! I was pretty demoralized. This time it was relatively simple.
I did have to change my password and write it down some place, but I stay logged in (we leave the computer on all the time).

(111,243 posts)and I got everything back. Fucking Russian hackers.
I haven't made a call to anybody's tech support in almost 10 years, not since I was trying to keep a bargain computer called The Antichrist up and running and speaking nicely to peripheral stuff.

(63,901 posts)It was one of the first email companies back in the day. We've had our accounts since then. And I am always teased about how outdated I am. It's as if it is pretty outdated and passe I am. My kids made fun of me...

(111,243 posts)I have all but 3 addresses on block, so I don't even use it as a junk account any more. It mostly gives me access to a huge mailing list over there for all sorts of political stuff.

(8,767 posts)I have had the specific email address since January 1995 when I signed on to aol.
I had been using my work ISP at home but there was a new policy that made using the work ISP for home.
Aol was one of few ISPs available then.

(11,795 posts)I didn't realize they were still around. But, hell changing your email is a giant pain in the ass. Sorry you had to go through the hassle to maintain it.

(18,497 posts)I had to close a bank account to get those assholes to stop charging me for about two years after I dropped their sorry provider service.
At the time you had to know the exact amount that would be charged to block it so they would change the charge.
This was at least 16 years ago.
And there forums and news groups were all heavily biased right-wing
I can't believe those creeps are still in business.

(34,136 posts)It had a movie theme - I don't even remember which movie it was for - and apparently was very rare. The guy that bought it wrote a book about collecting AOL CDs and he had never seen one, just read about them until he saw my Ebay auction.
The fun part was that I only put up for sale as a joke - I had a bunch of AOL CDs and was going to throw them away and someone said I could make some money with them. A few others sold for maybe $5 each, some didn't sell but overall I made over $100 out of crap I got free.
Just took a look - they are still selling on Ebay, but not for as much. I think the one I got all the money for was a Harry Potter AOL CD. There is on for sale now for only $3.95 - I guess I just hit the market at the right time.

Ours had a game called 'water balloons' on it where you were on the top of a building and you hit people with water balloons. I procrastinated many a paper with that game.
