DU Album of the Day: "Court and Spark" Joni Mitchell
"Laughing and crying, you know it's the same release." Joni Mitchell can write a song. Whether it's lyrics that make you do a mental double-take, music that has you alternately grooving and soulful, Joni Mitchell can take you places practically nobody else can. Her 1974 album "Court and Spark" was distinctive in so many ways, not least of which was that the title cut was released practically unnoticed, competing as it was with "Help Me," "Free Man in Paris" and "Raised on Robbery."
This is Mitchell at her incomparable vocal best, backed by some of the usual music scene suspects (David Crosby and Graham Nash), but also by Cheech and Chong! What is so strange when you know you're a wizard at three?
