My 86 year old mom had a nice visit (visitors) yesterday.........

We live in a high rise condo, down the hall we had 2 renters. A married couple from India, she is working on her Ph.D & he has Ph.D. already. They moved out because she is pregnant & they wanted a bigger unit. They both really like my Mom. He always asks about Mom and her health. he was happy to hear who her doctor was, as the doctor is from the same state in India he is from, and he's his doctor too.

Mom was sad that they moved & she didn't have a chance to say so long. Well they visited yesterday (I wasn't home) for about a half hour. Mom was happy all day yesterday & still is happy today. They promised that when after the baby is born in November, they will bring the baby for a visit too.

1. That was sweet of them.

I don't think a lot of Americans know their neighbors like they used to. I think it might have something to do with the Internet and smart phones.

10. You're probably right Tobin. Y'know theMan and I bought our house 16 years ago and NOT ONE

person welcomed us to the neighbourhood. Not one.
Our neighbours never spoke to us, never acknowledged our presence unless I spoke first.
We had an elderly couple living across from us and I'd take her some tomatoes in summer and say hello when I'd see her out. Her husband was ill and when he passed away (I saw the ambulance and read the obit) I put together a basket of healthy type snacks for her and anyone who might visit. She really appreciated it and sent a lovely thank you card.

Fast forward to this past year. 2 homes have sold and I've made it a point to bake something and take it as a welcome to our new neighbours. They seemed SO surprised but grateful. Where I'm from it's what you do.
I don't get around much these days so it's nice to have a connection.

A neighbour I've befriended is terminally ill and she's give her only son my contact info because I visit her at least once a week or chat on the phone with her. I'd like to know if she needs anything extra and I'm hoping he will inform me if need be. I can contact him if I have concerns about his Mom.

I would like to think I've made someone smile today.

6. And THERE ARE good people out there.

Sometimes we have to remind ourselves. That's why these stories are nice to see.

8. That's great that they stayed connected

It's hard to stay in touch with friends when we're apart. I know I'm not the only one here who has some guilts about that.

And one of the best doctors I ever had at the VA was a PA from India, working on his M.D. When he took leaves to go home to see family in India, I didn't mind at all having my appointments delayed. I counted myself lucky to have him as my primary.

That's a lovely story about your mom and her friends.
