He was given a pretty hard time about it, but I've been listening to his autobiography "A Full Life" (read by the author, himself!) and he said it was probably a weather balloon or something similar from a nearby military base - but, to him, it really did fit the description of an "unidentified flying object..."

I do remember Dennis Kucinich being ridiculed for mentioning that he had seen a UFO, but not Carter.

I will have to check out the Carter book. I have a few of his and actually got some signed by him at the Carter Library a few years back. We timed a vacation trip in the area to take advantage of a book signing that was being done then. I have never seen anyone sign books as fast as this man can do.

I've been a fan of Dennis Kucinich since he came out against the invasion of Iraq back in 2003 - and took such incredible grief for being "unpatriotic..."

As for Jimmy Carter, that is so cool that you were able to meet him! I am so envious! He's obviously my favorite, took some grief from my Republican family when I became an admirer when he was first running for president. Of course I knew nothing about politics back then, just sensed that he was the real deal and I'm quite proud of the fact that I was proved right.

That particular book is pretty amazing, I've learned so much about his life - and even his presidency - that I never knew before. His early life on the farm near Plains, his Navy career, his first run for state senator (and how he took on the corrupt official who "fixed" the election) all of it's incredibly interesting. I think it wasn't until disc #5 that he discussed running for president, LOL. And the more I've learned, the more I realize how right he was on all kinds of issues. I recommend it highly!

I did enjoy meeting him, even if it was for only a few seconds as he signed the book and the line moved on. Fun to meet a Nobel Prize winner. Got to see Al Gore at our Main Library a couple of years ago too, so that makes to Nobel Prize winners I had a chance to see.

I did read Carter's Our Endangered Values Book, which I really liked.

He drives the Secret Service crazy since he'll engage pretty much anyone who approaches him in conversation. And he still teaches Sunday School at his church when he's there - which must be a big draw for tourists and admirers. I'd certainly go, and I'm not the least bit religious, LOL.

He does say that he has repeated some stories he's shared in previous books, but this one is pretty comprehensive - and fascinating - no matter what he's talking about. I was given the audio book for my birthday so I've been listening to it in parts - whenever I have to drive any distance. It sure makes trips more pleasant to have Jimmy Carter with me...

And you met Al Gore, too?? Wow! My one brush with the presidency was when Bill Clinton came to my little burg in 2006 to campaign for the Democratic congressional candidate - Kirsten Gillibrand. This is a Republican area and the Democrats often didn't even bother to field a candidate. But she not only won - she's now senator! And President Clinton sure lived up to his reputation as a charismatic speaker! Even here, it was SRO to see and hear him.

And thanks for the book recommendation - it's next on my list! I can't hear enough from my favorite president!

I got to see him at the 50th anniversary celebration of the Truman Library. It was over a 4th of July weekend and we enjoyed listening to him. He could talk about a ham sandwich and it would be a worthwhile time spent.

Off to do my part for the economy!!!!

And I sure know what you mean about President Clinton. He has "It," whatever "It" is, LOL, and he was an enormous hit with the SRO crowd, and some of them had to be Republicans, since there just aren't that many Democrats around here! When I first heard his voice it blew me away, but then I'd never seen a president in person before...
