(22,298 posts)He & Osha basically disappeared from the books, apart from a vague reference by Davos as his ship passed islands known to be inhabited by cannibals & saw the remains of a recent shipwreck there.

WolverineDG
(22,298 posts)Maybe Davos was sent off to find him.

(6,261 posts)It's been speculated that it was a false flag of some kind, where the idea was to get people inside Winterfell to open the gates when the time comes.
Watching that episode again (Nickon being delivered to Ramsey), it did strike me that the Umber's refusal to bend the knee could be interpreted that way. Osha's attempt at killing Ramsey might have been part of that as well, although that was always likely to be doomed to fail. Also, the delivering of merely the head of ShaggyDog could be misdirection as well.
Or maybe not.
I suspect we'll find out soon.

(56,827 posts)over the next several episodes - I do know that episode 9 is being called The Battle of the Bastards, which I assume is Ramsay vs Jon. Will the next few episodes be Jon traveling around the North and asking other families to help him against the Boltons?

NewJeffCT
(56,827 posts)or is she being blackmailed?
Solly Mack
(90,740 posts)She's worried about Loras, for one - and she wants her family to gain control. Tommen in her pocket puts the Tyrells over the Lannisters. She convinced Tommen the faith must be upheld. Tommen banishes Jaime, more or less. Cersei goes along with it
Margaery is in charge in that marriage....making the Tyrells in charge of the 7 Kingdoms.
She also saw just how weak her brother is - and we saw how weak her father is - and who really runs the Tyrell army - Olenna Tyrell.
Still, Olenna understands how dangerous that is (giving the Sparrow any more power)....and Margaery may not.
If she's not acting then it will be Margaery causing unhappiness for the kingdom (and not Cersei) - because sooner or later people will grow tired of their vices landing them in prison. Of every little thing being a sin. Of being forced to comply with a religion.
I sense a battle of religions coming up as well.

(5,461 posts)Neither needs light to "see" the world around them. I'm betting on Arya luring the Waif into an ambush. It's possible Jaqen already knows, and is just letting the situation reach its' natural end.

Godhumor
(6,437 posts)Not quite sure how it would all work out, but between the set up, the reaction of Jaqen, her hiding in the cave instead of making an immediate run for it...I think she was told to use the play as a ruse to engage the Waif in a discrete and hidden showdown. Maybe the Waif is showing too much personality via jealousy, etc or similar.
I dunno, it just strikes me as this is a curve ball storyline.
FarPoint
(12,208 posts)Glad to see she went back for Needle, her sword.

(46,573 posts)If Arya's character judgment is being tested, she passed because she realized that the woman was a talented actress and the young actress just wanted her out of the way for personal benefit. If the older actress had no other backstory, it means that Arya made a judgment call that was the right one. If the faceless ones can't value that, then, they are just plain assassins.
WolverineDG
(22,298 posts)I can't imagine them hiring Richard E. Grant for just a couple of shows as a nothing character.
Godhumor
(6,437 posts)Whole troupe are faceless men playing a part to help set the stage for the Waif showdown.
Arya acting like she is still Arya, the play purposely set up to antagonize her, all playing into the Waif believing Arya isn't one of them, not realizing she is being set up.
Next time we see these two, we'll have the parkour chase from the trailers, and, when the Waif is lying broken or somesuch, Arya will reveal that she is providing her the gift.
BOOM! Mind...blown!

Coldhands in the form of what appears to be Benjen Stark. Or not. Haven't read the thread.
Poor Sam, Gilly and little Sam. The Tarly father is an arsehole.
The King and Queen now. Well, that Lannister child and that Tyrell woman.
The Tarly family at dinner. Awkward.
It would be nice if a white walker kills Lord Tarly - fitting even.
Seeing how Sam killed one and Lord Tarly never could.
Sam needs to buck the fuck up. Good on Lady Tarly, however.
Ha! Thank you, Sam.
Arya noting the Sansa character (in the play) saying the lines (Cersei character) behind the curtain.
Now the poison.
As an aside, give Arya a new hairstyle.
My, my, my.
She's still Arya Stark! (Yes!!!!!)
Even if she dies, she dies as herself...and that's better than as a murdering animal.
Jaime v. Sparrow now.
The Sparrow ain't dumb. Not the least bit. Which is why he needs to die. Because his kind of smart gets people killed.
We see who commands the Tyrell army don't we?
Tommen is an idiot - must be all that in-breeding.
Yep. Without striking anyone - the Sparrow won.
"The Crown" will have the people clamoring people for relief. Which serves the purpose to anyone else wanting the throne.
Gack! A Frey. I hate Freys equally as much as I hate Lannisters.
I don't like the Blackfish in the book. He holds the exact same prejudice as his idiot niece. (about Jon)
So, Jaime goes to the Riverlands afterall?
He goes there in the books.
It's not the first time the show has skipped a part in the books only to go back at another time.
And Brienne is headed that way too.....so that will put them both back in the Riverlands. (as in the books)
Yes, it's Benjen. That's nice.
So, Starks can come back.
What dragon-glass makes it can also change.
Ships, ships, ships.
Oh, sweetie - it's not yours...not even by your own family's rules. So if you really are a Targaryen then you'll follow the Targaryen line of succession.
I do love dragons though.

(5,461 posts)I'm not sure who I'm rooting for in this whole mess. I hate the Lanisters, but the High Sparrow is a pompous fraud. I guess I can just delight in the fact that the Lanisters' coup blew up in their faces.
Now the 'Mad Queen' can burn them all.
NewJeffCT
(56,827 posts)The Queen of Thorns is pretty crafty, so I think she can pull something else off. But, it is interesting that Jamie is going to confront the Blackfish in the Riverlands, which takes us back to Book 5 (A Dance with Dragons) -
