that killing them hurt him worse than it did them.

I'm sure he would have.

I suppose he killed them because they wouldn't stay still or pose so he could paint them.

Many times the increase of human knowledge and progress demands blood sacrifice..
which is a thought that just flew off the top of my head, and I don't know if it's true. It seems to be.
