I feel like rebelling.

For the past five years I had to keep my hair cut short and my face clean shaven due to company policy where I worked. I've got a new job now and I have a strong desire to go with the Jesus look.

I'm getting set for my first day. I have orientation today and then on the job training for a few weeks following that. I'll let you guys know how it goes and if they are cool with the Jesus look.

When my husband got his job the founder of the business was a long haired hippie looking dude and they had no appearance requirements. My husband was upset since he'd cut his hair and shaved to look for a job.

By the time he'd grown back his hair long enough for a pony tail and filled in a goatee the founder sold the business to a major corporation. They had much stricter requirements but since my husband was a good worker they grandfathered him in. After he retired last year I thought he would grow back his full beard but so far he's maintaining the goatee though he is not clipping it short like he did for the job.

I would love to put blue streaks in my hair but I am concerned that it would lessen my professional credibility.

I hope you are braver than I.

I got away with slighly long hair in the 70s when I was aged 7 to about 13 but then I got stuck into a christian high school so I had to have it short. OFf my ears and off my collar. The day I graduated I started letting it grow and finally got to this:
in 1990.

It stayed there for a few more years until I had to go look for another job and cut it all off.

Well I got a job and learned a lot but mostly I was miserable for about 8 years until I said fuck it. I'm growing my hair back and I don't care who doesn't like it. So when I interviewed for this job I went with a pony-tail down my back and a boat-load of "you need me in spite of my hair" attitude.

Didn't get a call back so I found some work being a courier. Nobody cares what a courier looks like.

4 months later I got a call from the boss here. The short-haired guy they hired over me was a dipshit and didn't know how to do the things needed for the job. Was I still interested? I got over my brief jilted feeling and went down and took the job for a little over minimum wage but it was in an IT department for a Not-For-Profit company whose mission I believed in.

That was almost 16 years ago and I'm still here wearing my pony-tail although nature is taking care of it slowly. I'm making quite a bit more than minimum wage and I've been here so long nobody even notices my long hair or the balding spot on top.

Now I have to wear my kilt to work to get any attention.
(National Tartan day a couple weeks ago)

the point is if you're a long-haired guy you're a long-haired guy. You can't let the bastards grind ya down. I'm happy, paid and don't give a shit what anyone thinks of my hair.

My son had long hair for about a year but it didn't look good on him. His father looked great with long hair but not everyone can pull it off.

Now about that hair.

Mr ITW has long hair. It looks good with neatly trimmed mustache and beard.

Good luck with that.
